Can anyone confirm what I suspect - this CPU/GPU usage goes to no cause apart from generating bitcoins? i.e. no force for good - just so you can make a virtual currency that can be traded with real currency?

"In a perfect world... spammers would get caught, go to jail, and share a cell with many men who have enlarged their penises, taken Viagra and are looking for a new relationship."
It does seem kind of pointless working for absolutely no reason at all other than to get bitcoins

I'm still in halls for the next three weeks.
I.E. No electricity bills! Going to be running this non-stop until I move out, mostly out of curiosity to see if I can actually make a decent amount of money. Albeit, on my measly 27 Mhash/s...
Cleavage is like the sun...Quick glances.
Haha yeah I phrased that incorrectly, it's obviously not pointless doing it as you get money. But the task itself seems wasted as you are putting in a lot of GPU effort that doesn't actually contribute anything to anyone else, if you see what I mean?
Just imagine if this tied in with F@H, I bet the amount of people folding would increase dramatically.

you must be, or they would be unable to gauge how much of this currency to give you.

Finally got it to work - had to mess with Catalyst all morning. Had to install 11.2 to get APP installed, then install 11.4 and finally 11.5 to get the APP to the newest version.
Running a 4830 at around 50Mhash/s. Should I be entering any flags that might up the number? The "-v -w128" just lowers it to ~44Mhash/s.
And does anyone know how this plays with gaming? I.e. should I need to stop it when I'm gaming?

You're contributing computer power. They give out a fixed (and decreasing) amount of bitcoins each month (or whatever period of time), these are divided up among those who contributing compute power, with the largest portion going to those who contribute the most power. The more people and computer power that gets involved, the less you get for your contribution.
Beside that it's a bit of a wibbly stock thing.
