It is a gaming system, but your right the 7900GTO will bottleneck it till the new NVIDIA cards are coming out.
Sorry for the late reply, I wanted to write about the build after a month of usage.
In fact there is no bottleneck noticeable in the games I play. BF2 (1280x1024@75Hz) and BF2142 (1074x768@75) are running at a constant 100FPS (all other graphics and sound settings at max). The FPS only goes down to 70ish (both games) when I’m near to an artillery/orbital strike.
The other games I play are FM2007 & 2009, they are not GPU depended (the more CPU and RAM power the better). I expect that UT3 might be the game that could stretch this build (my 7900GTO), but I lost the manual and with that the key to activate it (I’ll post FPS details when I find the manual).
Overall I'm very happy with this build; this includes Vista (shock horror). There were a few issues though, which have been solved or are in the process of being solved (any input from readers is welcome). The Samsung F1 (backup drive) that originally came with the system was faulty (performance and noise were normal when the system was delivered). It was replaced by an onsite engineer, who also fixed the neat and tidy but slight dysfunctional cabling.
The 3 front power fan cables where tidied up so that there was no slack to pull out the bays, which is the only way to get at the fan filters. This minor issue is the only real complaint I have. Maybe something that could be passed on to the system builders; for future builds.
I upgraded to SP2 and had no issues with that as far as I can tell. The main fixed for me being the slow to none shutdown I sometimes experienced.
Today I had the first major problems, which are currently in the process of getting fixed (if they are not already solved). The system failed to load with the over clock settings and Operating system found a new raid controller (possible effect of failed profile load).
During boot-up the express gate screen looked warped and the icons stretched to the left. I clicked on enter O/S, the next screen reported the OC profile had failed, and gave me two options, enter bios or boot with default profile. After I booted into the O/S with default profile, new hardware was found. Raid controller needed to be installed from the Asus motherboard disk. Before I did this I looked around the Asus and this forum to see if anyone else had similar problems. I choose the m/b disk as the safest option and installed and got these 2 devices in the manager under storage controllers:-
Microsoft iSCSI Initiator
Marvell 88SE6320 SAS Controller Driver V3.1.0.14
After that I looked for a solution to the failed O/C (solved by simple reapplying the OC profile in the bios; 30 second job if that).
http://forums.hexus.net/scan-3xs-sys...7-systems.html
After restarting (with O/C profile) there is only the one line left in the Device Manager; under Storage Controllers:-
Microsoft iSCSI Initiator
I don’t know which ones should be there in the first place, waiting for scan support to ring me back as there was no-one available when I rang. So any help, information is appreciated.
Overall though I’ am happy with the system, support provided by scan and third parties. As it stands I think I will be a repeat customer; but not for a few years.
Hi
As the Profile has had to be loaded its likely a driver will need reinstalling, this can happen or maybe one of the onboard controllers has not been disabled and is looking for a driver
Try putting the motherboard cd in and double clicking on the item in device manager and update the driver, this will search the CD and should find the correct driver
If you are calling the support line please leave a voice mail as we have no way of knowing you have called unless you do, we have had a few callers that have not left messages and withheld their numbers today
The support numbers are 0871 472 4743 and 0871 472 4756 if you leave your details one of us will call you back in the morning
Regards
Ben
