    Return of the Clown

Thinking of buying my parents a new PC .... I spent about GBP2.5k on my own but have about GBP1k to spend on theirs. I'm thinking the following.

    LN36726 Intel CPU Core i5 2500K+ Unlocked o/c
    LN36775 1280MB EVGA GTX 570
LN37493 Corsair Memory XMS3 Classic 8GB - too much RAM?
LN32170 Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB HD (6Gb/s) - is this ok?
LN36661 Asus P8P67 Pro, Intel P67 Express, S 1155 - heard there are some issues?
    LN33739 AKASA AK-CCX-4002HP Venom Ultra
    LN27644 Corsair CMPSU-850HXUK HX 850W £129.42 - too much wattage?
LN34934 Coolermaster CM 690 II Lite Black Mid

    1. What you think of the setup - any suggestions/changes?
    2. Should i wait for the Z68 boards?
    3. 4.5 Ghz o/c is fine.
    4. ETA if i paid now... its a birthday present.
    5. Total GBP inc building it etc etc
    6. Can i get a loyalty card

Regarding the Sandy Bridge issue, have a look here

Scan are still selling full Sandy Bridge systems but you're more than covered when the replacement motherboards filter down to them. It's a fair point actually because why should they lose a sale when most other builder's are still selling the systems with this chipset.

Are your parents gamers? If so it's a decent build although the psu is overkill. A 650w Corsair TX will suffice and with the cable routing prowess of the 690 case it won't matter that it's not a modular psu. I would also think about a storage hdd.

If your parents aren't gamers then it's overkill to be frank. They won't be needing a GTX 570 or even 560 but, as far as I'm aware, a dedicated gpu will help with playing blu-ray and other media.

    Re: Return of the Clown

Whoa, those are some lucky parents getting a GTX 570, almost makes me ashamed to be considering a 560 for my new build

Are they going to be gaming? Might help to know what sort of monitor they'll be using as a 570 will be overkill for anything less than a resolution of 1920x1080. Mr Puppy is bang on with the PSU, 650w will be fine I'm sure.

Might as well go for 8GB of RAM considering they're pretty cheap now.

As for the hard drive, you could save some money by getting the Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB drive instead of the Caviar Black, it will perform just as well.

Sorry miss puppy here, have a nice slipper to sink your teeth into!

As a direct result of this thread I am now getting a GTX 570 instead of a 560, now it's just a matter of waiting 4 weeks grrrrr.

The are big gamers.... hence the card. Think your right RE power supply.
