An8 32x and SATA (One for the experts)

I've been reading up on Sata and to be honest I'm getting lost

I am planning on getting 2 Sata hard drives and a Sata DVD RW drive, but what I want to know is this

    1) Can I run two sata hard drives in none raid like you do with pata hard drives, primary and slave?

    2) If I got a sata DVD RW from here are there any compatibility issues with them and my board?

    3) Would 2 Sata HD's and a Sata DVD RW all work on this board together or would I only be able to run the 2 sata HD's and not the sata DVD RW ?

apart from my concern about helpin a manu fan.....u should be ok to go fella. Two identicle SATA hard drives would be fine in both RAID0 and RAID1, choice depends on ur preferences, ask if u dont know the difference. With SATA u can forget master and slave as normally there is a single device per channel.
As for the SATA optical drive, that should happily coexist on the same mobo tho probably best to put it on the Sil SATA ports while leaving the drives on the NV SATA ports

Cool, but I don't want to go on raid as I want a 250 for windows and a 500 for storage/backup.

I've checked my bios and I see I can set it up as sata mode ide or raid so I've left it as ide and in another screen I've disabled raid

At least it's better then being a Chelski fan

    yes

wouldn't have thought so but I never ran a SATA optical when I had an AN8 32X

wouldn't anticipate any problems running all 3.

I bought a SATA samsung DVDRW for £20 works a treat, obviously there is no performance improvement over PATA but a smaller cable and the ability not to use PATA at all (being a must on my AB9)
