Re: Abit IP35 Pro - Won't Boot now

any update on this, i built my ip35, e2160, corsiar PC6400, corsair HX620 over the weekend and i get these double boot issues as well.

my board is running a BIOS from may and i have not had the chance to update it yet, but some more news would be appreciated.

the double boot is unrelated to the PSU.
If you wish to then the BIOS13 beta cures it except if the board has been totally disconnected from power in which case it will double boot the first time that you power up after reconnecting.
You can find the 13 beta at the abit USA forums beta BIOS sticky.

Unhappy Re: Abit IP35 Pro - Won't Boot now

    Hi:

It worked great yesterday and overnight, I've vista 32 ultimate sp1, vista said I had a blue screen issue and restarts itself, I upgrade Nvidia drive, I shut it down and leave it on for the rest of the afternoon, at night I found the cpu off, tried to start, won't start. It turns on, the fans start up, the light by the power switch shows red the whole time, but the green one goes out then it turns itself off and tries again. The POST Code LED shows the following: 8.3.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400
    Motherboard: IP35 Pro Socket 775
    Memory: 4 CM21024-6400 DDR2 Corsair 800 Mhz
    Storage: 1 WD740ADFD Raptor(Only 4 OS); 1 ST30083IAS; 2 ST3500630AS;
Graphics Card(s): Nvidia EGForce 7600 GT 256 GB
PSU: Ultra XPro QR Nvidia SLI 800W ATX
    Monitor(s): Sony KDL40Z4100

So, I check the User's Manual it said: 8.3. ATX Power supply ready

    - I have tried clearing the cmos, remove battery wait for 15min without any change in behavior.
    - I also tried removing each memory module, without any change in behavior.
    - At the end I tried removing the power from the ATX4P1 and i got a power sequence until code 9.9, but without this connector the video card doesn't work.

    Please, could you help me?

    Thanks.

sounds like it's most likely a PSU problem,

Re: Abit IP35 Pro - Won't Boot now

    Ive had similar problems recently.

PC worked fine for a few months, then all of a sudden it would sit in a 8.2 8.3 reboot loop.
Flipping the CMOS clear switch and waiting for a bit, or sometimes just unplugging the mains cable for a while, often let it boot up.

Eventually it just wouldnt start, plugged the PSU into an Antec PSU tester and the red fault light is shown, slightly worrying for a PSU thats only been used as long as the board.
Dropped in a Corsair VX550, had to clear the CMOS again, but now its working fine again.

Does make me wonder why the PSU is now showing as faulty, it still gives out the right voltages on the 3.3, 5 and 12v lines though.

Re: Abit IP35 Pro - Won't Boot now

    Batmanned thread

Anyway....how can it be the PSU's fault?
    It must be the board.

If the PSU was at fault, it wouldnt just be the ABIT P35 that was causing the issue.

    signalling problems perhaps?
It's not unknown for PSUs to work with some mobos & not others.

Surely that also indicates a problem with the board feeding the wrong things to the PSU, the PSU isnt intelligent, it just provides power when the triggered.

    not necessarily.
e.g. look at the various examples of incompatibility that have existed - Asus & some Seasonics, certain Enermax & nF680i mobos, some abit IP35s & some Seasonic manufactured PSUs.
More often than not in my experience when this happens to a previously working system it's the PSU that's failed or had a partial failure rather than the mobo (I'm definitely not saying that it couldn't be the mobo though).

I remember all those issue but they were all related to specific PSU's.
The issue here is that the IP35 is not compatible with alot of different PSU models so this is a power management feature within the board and not a PSU fault.

No, the IP35 series are compatible with lots of PSUs, even the Seaonic oemed problem seemed to clearup (although we never found out whether it was the mobo, PSUs or both that changed).
Also this board worked with this PSU previously, however, I can't help but note that it's an Ultra & whilst there has been the odd exception Ultras PSUs are not well regarded on the whole.

Re: Abit IP35 Pro - Won't Boot now

Interestingly it only seemed to affect the boot up, once I persuaded it to boot the PC, it would run for hours until i shut it down again, next day, same problem as before.

clearing the cmos some times results and the pc works, but if it turn it off i'm back to the boot problem.

Re: Abit IP35 Pro - Won't Boot now

In my case there was a problem with PSU. The power good signal was too low despite all other pins having the correct voltages.
