New build IP35 pro failing to boot

'am new to posting so appologies if i put in some duff info.
Just put a new system together of
    Ip35pro board, quad 6600, 2*2gb crucial ddr2 dimm256m*64, power color x1550 graphics card & storm 700w sli/cross-fire psu. vista home premium 32bit

I put in hdd from old system (that 'am back to using) 40gb seagate.
on powering up seemed to be booting fine, but stopped on the windows Error Recovery screen, no matter which option i choose sytem runs back through the post screen & returns to the recovery screen.
    reseting ccmos numerous times.

After reading various other posts & abit's web-site i've updated the bios to v14 9or so i think) but same thing still happens.
Clutching at straws i just cloned the hdd on to a 400gb sata drive but guess what no change.

My wife's starting to get a bit narked with me as the rooms full of bits of pc's

you can't just put a Windows operating system loaded on another system onto a new one & expect it to work (unless based on very simlar components).
It will have wrong drivers, HAL etc. - you need to do a fresh install

Re: New build IP35 pro failing to boot

Now 'am really feeling the strain.

tried a fresh install as sugested but as my Vista is just the upgrade I've having to put on an old copy of XP pro. (sp1).
Boots fine from dvd and goes through formating disc & installing the drivers etc.
However when it comes to the first reboot in the install it all begins right back at the start again & just keeps on looping like this.

I've tried all options full, quick, ntfs & fat format both on SATA drive & an old drive through IDE.

am guessing that its down to drivers etc. not being on this version of XP but 'am loathed to fork out for another copy of the vista when i've already paid for the upgrade version.

    Any ideas?

do you mean that it just goes back to "boot from CD press any key " (or whatever)?
If so it's meant to - just don't press any key & it should step over to booting from the HDD.

oh & check that you have your RAM set at the manufacturer's recommended voltage & not the JEDEC 1.8V that the mobo may well set on auto.

Re: New build IP35 pro failing to boot

If you have the upgrade version of Vista then dont sacrifice your current copy of XP.
Follow the instructions from the link below.
DailyTech - Workaround Discovered For "Clean Install" With Vista Upgrade DVDs

It works btw and isnt illegal, just taking advantage of a loophole.

    BTW BUFF is correct

Re: New build IP35 pro failing to boot

    It lives! cheers guys

The default RAM voltage just happened to be correct, so after seeing on other posts with installing prob's about only using 1stick of ram i though t what the heck, & pulled one of mine out.
    Why should this work?

Just a shame i didn't see Dratuk's reply first though so that i didn't have to go through 2installs, but nevermind.

Really happy with the performance i've seen so far, where my old P4 would constantly be running @100% the new ones just peaked around 15%.

Only got a couple of issues now:
coz vista was already installed on my other pc I need another one, hopefully microsoft support will be able to help.

Now need to get all the programmes & settings loaded onto the new hdd - since 'am assuming that i can't just copy them over -that is unless anyone knows otherwise?

    Cheers again.
