HELP - No POST at all

    Hi folks,

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.... just put together the following system and it won't POST at all

    IP35 Dark Raider
    E8400
    8800GT
    2x1Gig Corsair XMS2 PC5400

On the motherboard there is an LED which lights when the power is connected but the PC is not switched on - on my build it is showing red??? Is this correct as there is nothing in the manual other than a comment that says it lights up when power is connected.....???

If this is bad can anyone help with any suggestions???

    Cheers

PS - Tried the things in the thread that rover214 started but still no joy

    Any fans coming on?
All PSU cables connected and checked?
    What PSU are you using?

Tried booting with 1 stick of ram.

Re: HELP - No POST at all

    Thanks for the reply,

Fans come on, all power cables connected, but I get no beeps or display on the screen - thought at first it might be the 8800GT but have tried another gfx card and same issue

Tried the 1 ram as well

Using an Antec Sonata III case with the 500W PSU

Any ideas on the red LED on the motherboard???

Re: HELP - No POST at all

Board should have two LEDs, one green, one red. One of them comes on as soon as the PSU receives power, the other one when you actually spark the system up. Forget which is red and which is green but suffice to say that if your system is actually running, you should see two LEDs

Does your board have a POST code display? If so, what does it say?
    BH6, BX6 2.0, BE6, BE6-II 2.0, ST6-RAID, BE6-II 2.0 (again), BD7-RAID, BD7II-RAID, IC7-G, IC7 Max3, AB9 QuadGT, IX38 QuadGT. IX58... Oh, b*ll*cks. RIP Abit

Re: HELP - No POST at all

I have seen this problem recently with the E8400 chip.
If the temp sensor is wrong, in a very few cases, the board will not boot as it reads the temp too high on the CPU.

(I had this problem 2 weeks back with a E8400 build for a friend).

I left it for an hour, jumped straight to bios and the temp was 126 degrees. It powered down immediately. I RMA'd the chip and all was OK with the new one.

Long shot i know, and unlikely, but still possible.

Its probably either the memory or PSU thought bh.

Re: HELP - No POST at all

Thanks for the replies Richh and Blitzen.

I have spoken to Scan this morning and to cut a long story short, I am taking everything to their shop on Friday and they are going to test it for me and hopefully get it sorted

    Richh

Thanks for confirming the LED colours, I was beginning to wonder if there was a problem when I saw the red LED - I get both LED's lit when I fire it up, just no display or POST beeps
There isn't a POST code on the board so I can't provide any further info

    Blitzen

I am hoping that the E8400 I got would have not had problems, but I guess I will find out on Friday

Will let you all know what the problem is after I find out myself

    Thanks

Re: HELP - No POST at all

Are you getting the long beep? I am. Tried resetting CMOS several times - all the power's plugged in correctly. I'm trying to run memtest, so no HDD installed yet, but it won't POST.

The board's sitting in an Antec Sonata III with the Earthwatts 500w PSU, intel e6400 with stock cooler & 2gb of PC533 RAM - I've tried it with one stick and it still does the same thing. (long beep, rinse and repeat).

    Do you mean DDR2 533 or PC5300 (667 fsb)?
    P35 chipset doesn't support DDR2 533.

Re: HELP - No POST at all

ah right.. it's DDR2 533 (sorry I get confused with all these numbers flying about). That'll be the problem then. Was beginning to think I'd done something stoopid. Thanks for clearing that up.

too confirm.... Tumble has PC4200 (DDr2 533) Samsung ram. Glad BUFF knew about the non-support for PC4200 on that chipset...I'd not thought of it.

But according to the Scan website.... the Dark Raider board (assuming that is what Tumble is using as well) states that the memory speeds supported are 533, 667 and 800 Mhz so I would have assumed that memory should work in the board??

PS - Tumble, you get more than I do..... I don't even get any beeps at all

I think what it means is that you can get your 667 memory to run at 533, but actual 533 memory isn't supported.. which is admittedly weird, but who knows how these people think

Lol, just as well I didn't get any 533 memory then..... otherwise my trip to Scan tomorrow would have been a bit embarrassing
I am just hoping that there is something faulty (or that it is just a case of the BIOS needing to be flashed) when I get there as I don't want to look like a fool - it is just a shame that I don't have any other parts that I could use to test the rest of the system

Oh well, hopefully I will be leaving Scan tomorrow with a fully working machine that I just need to get the OS, software, etc all installed and then I can have some fun next week while I am off work

My only worry is that I will spend a fortune on other bits while I am waiting for it to be tested..... maybe I should leave my credit card at home

that's actually true - Intel P35 chipset doesn't support DDR2 533 (minimum DDR2 667) but if you have a CPU with an 800 (200x4) fsb then you can run your memory slower than 667 using manual settings.
SCAN's info is wrong in terms of official support.

Re: HELP - No POST at all

Just to update you all folks,

The problem was slightly more complicated than expected unfortunately..... the initial thoughts that the BIOS needed flashing was correct, but the motherboard refused to take the BIOS flash so I have ended up with another make of motherboard and am now in the process of trying to get the OS and everything else installed

Fingers crossed I will have no further problems
