Question IP35 Dark Raider Booting Question...

Is it normal when I turn on the PC for it to seem to power upfor a couple seconds, then power down, then power up again and boot normally.... It does this every time I switch on and also when saving changes in the bios.

Also, is there any way to turn off the JMicron RAID controller? - to possibly make the system boot up a second quicker?

Re: IP35 Dark Raider Booting Question...

Mine did the same and it is down to my PSU. What I did was clear the CMOS using the switch on the board. Power off the systems at the plug and then back on. I wait about a minute and then switch on the PC and it then comes up. I really should replace my PSU for a better one, but it works for now.
What I also did was save my overclock setting in the BIOS, so if it does it again I can just reload (F7).

I have a 6 month old seasonic S12 PSU, so I don't think there's a problem there.... there's nothing else to suggest my PSU is at fault.

on earlier BIOS, yes (later BIOS won't if you retain standby power when shutdown) & on all BIOS always if you are in the habit of totally disconnecting the board from all power incl. standby when you shut down.
It's the chipset setting the memory strap

Also, is there any way to turn off the JMicron RAID controller? - to possibly make the system boot up a second quicker?
yes, & it will lop more than a second off boot time.
iirc it's under integrated peripherals>storage controller.

Re: IP35 Dark Raider Booting Question...

My Enermax is brand-new and I don't disconnect the board completely from the power. The red LED on the motherboard always stays on. Any other plausible causes?

I cannot clear the CMOS by jumper either, if I do the board simply refuses to POST/boot and if I disconnect the power then the red power LED won't come on again until I take out the CMOS battery to clear the CMOS.

    BIOS version?

when you clear CMOS you are resetting the BIOS to defaults incl. RAM voltage & th eJEDEC 1.8V may not be enough for your RAM (iirc rated at 2.1V)

Re: IP35 Dark Raider Booting Question...

The DRAM voltage is set to 1.9V, as OCZ states 1.9~2.1V on it's website. The RAM seems to be running stable under windows with those settings, but I might give it a shot with higher settings when I'm back home again. However, even with the initial automatic laxer settings of 5-5-5-15 and 1.8V the same "double switching" happend. When I reduced the timings without uping the voltage, POST wouldn't take place and I had the problem with clearing the CMOS by jumper (as described above and in the other thread below).

Bios Issue Date: 2008/01/11, ID: 15 - this is the penultimate as the last version wouldn't work properly.

I'm lost... thanks for your help

Increasing the voltage did not help - so weird.

Thanks for your help, I have bios v11 on there, but don't have a floppy drive to upgrade the bios to the latest v16. How can I do it with a CD?

Ahh yes, I found that shortly after my last post, I still can't find where to turn off the raid controller though.

Re: IP35 Dark Raider Booting Question...

I'm no expert here but I also have a Dark Raider and was experiencing the same problem. Over on the Abit main forums there is constant reference being made to the 'double boot' problem, which I assume to be the same thing.

I flashed my Bios to the latest (version 16) and the problem went away; although I still get it now and again after I change some BIOS settings or go too far with an overclock.

I suggest you upgrade the firmware.

you can also flash from an USB memory stick, it's a bit easier than making a bootable CD.

ahh cool, I forgot to say thanks for advising to update the bios, I did it through windows with the flash utility in the end...

strange that they call the raid controller the onboard PCI device... I'll try that now, thanks in advance

    EDIT -----

ahh yes, it was in there there was an IDE option, some JMB***** (numbers) thing there that I disabled, now I boot up probably a couple seconds faster

Re: IP35 Dark Raider Booting Question...

The JMicron is an addon controller but doesn't do RAID on the Dark Raider because abit didn't implement the SATA ports off it.
The ICH9R is "onchip" as opposed to "onboard".
