    Question New mobo advice pls

Hello yall, bin skulkin in the background a while whilst lookin for a new mobo so i thought i'd better put the some questions to you all.

I was thinkin of buyin the dark raider mobo and wondered if anyone has had some good long term game stable overclock results (i dont care about silly clock speeds) as my old asus-amd setup is now quite long in the tooth to say the least. Looks like i will be pairing it with a c2d 8200 an some nice ddr2 (reccomendations for ram pls 4gig will be purchased). Btw is the cpu voltage stable on the darkraider mobo, that seems to be my limiting oc factor when tweakin my old amd cpu as i currently get about 0.5 volt fluctuation and bsods when trying to oc past 2.6ghz (NOT 24/7 stable though passes orthos fine).

I already have a 700watt ocz psu, antec 900 case, leadtek 8800gt zl. Just really need a good suggestion for ram and a good cpu cooler that will fit in my antec case, was thinkin on the thermalright ultima 90i for the cpu, any suggestions for a NB and SB cooler would also be appreciated as i really wanna hit high fsb on 1:1 ram ratio. Was thinkin on the thermalright HR-05 IFX SLI Chipset Cooler or the noctua nc-u6 for the NB and am open to suggestions for the SB cooler though the zalman ZM-NB47J Northbridge cooler would probably fit the SB fine i think. I would also then need a mosfet cooler for the mobo should i fit an aftermarket NB cooler.

I know for certain this mobo cpu combo can hit good oc's but i was really wanting some honest advice as to how far I could realisticly push this mobo with the 8200 cpu as i would imagine a lack of crossfire would make the NB less prone to overheating. All i really want is to play me games @ slick framerates. Ahh yes is the onboard sound anygood?? I have a huge public address speaker system from my dj setup and really dont wanna tax the cpu with the audio overhead or get the dreaded hisses and crackles on my 1Kwatt sound system!!! Though it really annoys my neighbours

    Thanx very much in advance.

    Sativasam out.

    Re: New mobo advice pls

well i have a Dark Raider running my Q6600 at 3.2GHz perfectly fine!
    it done 400FSB easily aswell!

it's a very nice board, and if you get a few more posts under your belt you'll be able to get it for £60~ on the Scan Today Only.. with free next day del. included!

    i'd also suggest this RAM
    OCZ platinum Rev. 2
    and this CPU cooler
    runs my Q6600 @ 3.2GHz (idle: 26'C load: 44'C)
    Scythe Mine

check out my CPU-Z verification underneith my post for more info if you need it..

also, you probably won't need a NB and SB cooler, especially SB..
just get decent case airflow and you should be fine!

realistically, low 500s fsb if your CPU & other components are upto it.
    For 4Gb RAM KustomPCs.co.uk - G.Skill 4Gb PQ DDRII PC8000 plays very well with IP35 series mobos.

I wouldn't hurry to change the chipset cooling without trying it first as the 45nm CPUs don't seem to last with very high Vcore so you aren't going to be pumping an awful lot through it.

i'd rather not run my Q6600 at any higher than 3.6GHz on air tbh

i totally forgot about that, but yeah.. your NB isn't gonna need huge amounts of voltage..
mine's only on 1.44v at my OC and it's completely stable!

he's getting an E8200 though with an 8 multi so for 4.0GHz (doable on Penryn) he needs 500fsb.

isn't 4GHz a little too high for that chip though?
you'll have to pump some serious voltage through it to get that, and it's been proven that it doesn't take much to kill them Penryn's..

did you mean to thank me there btw?

that RAM you suggested is probably also a much better idea.. gives loads more headroom for OCing the e8200..

    i slipped just then aswell!
went to sit up instead of leaning on my arm!

4GHz is do-able on the e8400 and such, but the e8200 is even lower clocked..
so it'll need to be OC'd even more!
what sort of voltage would you need for 4GHz on a penryn?

    Re: New mobo advice pls

Thx for the quick replies guys, certainly gonna purchase the dark raider, need that internal raid 0. Some other p35 mobos only do external raid apparently, like i really need external raid 0 lol.

However was really lookin towards the kingston or crucial pc8500 ram in hope of micron d9G chips on the stix. The kingstons would look real nice with the blue mobo and the blue led's in me case, expensive but nice i think. The 4ghz would be nice but really only braggin rights for me being aircooled and wanting long term reliability, 3.6ghz would turn a few faces green round ere anyways

However a few more questions if ya will. Whats the onboard sound like as i have huge dj speakers runnin 1kilowatt (rms)+, secondly to post a picture on ya nice forum do i just copy an paste a pic from my documents??

    Thanx once again

The G.Skill has nice blue heatspreaders too.
You are better with 2x 2Gb DIMMs rather than 4x 1GB DIMMs.

the onboard sound isn't that bad at all, of course if you are an audiophile you'll probably go with a discrete sound card.

I don't think that you've got enough posts yet to allow you to post a link/image.

When you get enough posts to be able to create links in posts:

1.) Host it on a website like photobucket/imageshack etc (just google)
2.) Click the "Add image" icon (yellow background, grey hills.) and enter the direct URL of the image (will be found on where ever you hosted it)

    and done.
