Thumbs up New to forums with IX38

    Hi All,

Just joined your forums, my first post

My IX38 Quad GT is due to arrive tomorrow

    I am matching it with

    Antec P 180 case
    Antec Neo HE 550 PSU
    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
    Zalman CNPS9700-LED CPU Cooler
OCZ 4GB Kit (2x2GB) DDR2 1066MHz/PC2-8500 Reaper Memory HPC Edition Dual
    HIS ati 3870 x2
    Antec Neo HE 550 PSU
    Creative Xtreme music X-FI

Will be putting it together tomorrow night, is there any specifics i should be aware of before i put it all together? On paper this all sounds like good match for semi-decent setup, really just looking
for any potential niggles (compatibility, BIOS updates...) during build which may not be apparent but exist, any advice or pointers welcome

    Cheers

Re: New to forums with IX38

    welcome

make sure that you set the RAM voltage according to OCZ spec.
You may need to update the BIOS & there is a beta 13 BIOS on the abit USA forums if you don't mind betas.

The Neo 550HE can be a bit iffy on some abit mobos.

    MSI P55-GD80, i5 750
    abit A-S78H, Phenom 9750,

Re: New to forums with IX38

BIOS 12 works fine btw (well its does with the Quads).

    WORD OF WARNING THOUGH.
Brace yourself for the MASSIVE disappointment of the lack of anything in the box. Board/IO Shield/Manual/ Drivers Disk./............thats it! For a board at almost £150 that is pretty pathetic by ABIT.

Also, they stiff you out of the fan brackets for the heatsink. I called about them and asked. Was told they were being sent. 2 months later nothing, so i am a little upset at the fact they dont put the parts in the box that are advertised and then cba to send them out either when they are aware.

The board itself is fantastic and performs really well. Just a shame that ABIT dont even supply the correct parts.

Yeah, i did read in few reviews that there is no many goodies with the board, but i am not that worried, i have so many spare cables, fans... left over from previous builds so i should be fine, lets hope they did not forget to solder transistor here, capacitor there....

For a board at that price, it is poor isnt it

ABIT have been far from proactive at trying to rectify it aswell.

They also forgot to put in the additional USB/Firewire faceplate which is also very bloody annoying. Not to mention them skimping on the 40mm fans (let alone the brackets for them).

Like i said, although i love the board, i wish i had bought the ASUS Rampage. Whether the CS is good or not, at least you get something for your cash.

Only if you dont want dual channel.

I cant remember the config now but look in the manual.
Its probably either 1 & 3 or 2 & 4 that operate dual channel mode.

Memoy is so cheap atm that you should get 4gb running if you can stretch to it.

You should get a box which is placed underneath the mainboard, if I were you id send that board back to scan
and ask fro a unopened one.

Re: New to forums with IX38

    Hi All,

I have put it all together, and all look ok so far, now to fine tune it.

There is one thing i am not sure about.

I do not see option in bios to set RAM frequency to 1066.
    Ram i am using is

OCZ 4GB Kit (2x2GB) DDR2 1066MHz/PC2-8500 Reaper Memory HPC Edition Dual

Divider option which lets me to set it closest to 1066 is

    FSB : DRAM 2:3
    DRAM Freq 510 (DDR2 1020)

Only immediate way i see is by clocking cpu higher till 1066 is reached
at the moment cpu is runing at stock 3.0 (E8400)

    Anybody has any suggestions?

    Cheers guys
