    Flashing bios with uguru

hello all, first post and greeting from the States.

As the uabit forum won't send out confirmation emails, I am coming here for help.

I have a new build, see specs below, and am about ready to install the OS. My question is in regards to bios updates. I do not plan, right away, to OC my board and wondered if it was safe to use the Uguru program to flash my bios. I have read that a lot of you warn against it, but aren't most of you overclocking your boards? I wondered if a stock board was safer to flash than a modded one.

I do have a floppy drive that I pulled from an old, old computer, so I can create a disk and flash from there, but it seems much easier to use the flash program in Uguru. I have a Dell laptop and I have successfully flashed from windows and my old Asus board flashed from Windows with ease.

Just looking for some thoughts, not flames. Thanks.

    Re: Flashing bios with uguru

If you're not happy about flashing the bios in Windows (and I know a lot of people aren't) you could always get a small USB stick and boot up from that rather than faffing about with floppies.
You can get a small stick for pennies these days and even a 64Mb one would do the job with acres of room to spare.

    Re: Flashing bios with uguru

I have no idea what the flashing from windows would do, I was going to try it before I start loading the other software I need to load. Of course, if it kills my board....ugh, just seems like it should work, doesn't it?

    Re: Flashing bios with uguru

There are too many variables that can cause a bad flash, especially if its a new build. Complete system stability is a must or your asking for trouble. My suggestion would be to use the floppy. There is a link in my signature with a step by step guide....GL!

    Re: Flashing bios with uguru

whilst FlashMenu should work it's inherently more risky flashing in Windows than in DOS.
Nobody should flash with an overclock either way, that's simply adding to the risk.

    Re: Flashing bios with uguru

I'm going to try the flash drive method, get the bios updated before installing the OS. Like I said, I have a floppy drive, but I don't think I have any floppies, have to look. The thumb drive looks easy.
