Abit IX38 QuadGT possible failure ?

right this has been killing me over night,
first off, specs and everything is brand new:

    Abit IX38 QuadGT
    Intel Q6600 ( stock )
    Corsair TX 650W
    OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-8500
    Sapphire HD 4870 X2

i turn on the pc and the codes runs through all the normal codes until it hits " FF " which should be normal

but nothing shows up on the screen, i press the caps lock keys and they work so the system has not hanged

i switched the 4870 X2 with a old HD2600pro and everything works perfectly and it goes into windows, so now im thinking its the power supply!?
so i pop back in the 4870 X2 and that suddenly works and i install all the drivers and mobo drivers

BUT the problem starts up again when i returned everything into the case! it just goes to FF and my monitor stays on stand by waiting for a signal.. any help? ..please?

the card is on the 1st PCIx slot if that matters

Almost certainly because you have BIOS 13, 14 or the beta one listed in the E0 thread here.

Been trying to get ABit to sort the "IX38 QuadGT gives no display when used with an 4870x2 and BIOS 13 or later" for over a month.......

Plenty of us with the issue, yet no one an ABit seems to be forthcoming with a fix.

Roll back to BIOS 12 and it should work, just don't upgrade to a E0 CPU until it's fixed.........

Re: Abit IX38 QuadGT possible failure ?

When it happened to me, I ended up having to put an old graphics card in to get a display.....from there you have to use the awdflash utility from the abit site to perform the flash.

Doing it blindly is not advisable.

If you don't have another gfx card to use, then I would start begging someone who lives close to you to borrow theirs :S

Re: Abit IX38 QuadGT possible failure ?

    hi guys,

i had this problem too, after being posted, the GPU fan keeps spinning at a high RPM.

i solved the case without revering the BIOS, cause my q9550 wouldn't be supported.
    here's the solution:
on the 4870x2 there is a dipswitch (sw1), if changed in the direct opposite direct (so instead of channel 1 on and channel 2 off, channel 1 off and channel 2 on) the system booted up nicely.

i'm owning a sapphire 4870X2 for that matter.

    greetings
