Have you checked eSata is enabled in the BIOS with the JMicron controller? Is it even detected from the BIOS?

yes, but lot's of people write IP35 when they really mean IP35-E or Pro - just confirming.

onchip refers to the ICH9R on an IP35, onboard refers to the JMicron (which provides the rear eSata ports on a Pro but the IP35 doesn't have those).
    have you tried enabling AHCI?

Have you tried connecting it up powering up the external hdd then powering up the pc?

    It should then appear.

Re: Abit IP35 + WD My Book Home (eSATA)

to use this, you got to set the bios to AHCI mode + Intel Matrix installed on windows.
You will need to plug the power source as the esata cable doesnt provide the power source.
