    Airpace Wi-fi 1xPCIe problem

    Hello,

    Something strange is going on with my Airpace Wi-fi card. It seems the hardware doesn't initiate properly at every start-up and then won't show up in the device manager. When it shows up, it works flawlessly, but I'm getting annoyed, having to re-start my PC. Sometimes it takes a couple of launches and the behaviour is completely random.

    I'm using Vista Home Premium 32bit, although I don't think it is a software problem. Hardware configuration is in my profile and the rest of the PC runs smoothly. I think the mainboard has one of the latest BIOS'. I will check at the next startup whether it's version 17 or 18.

    Any idea what's going on and how I could rid myself of this pain in the neck? This has been going on since I built the computer in March (?) last year.

    Thanks & toodle-pip,
    Cistron

    Re: Airpace Wi-fi 1xPCIe problem

    uninstall the driver

    after that shutdown machine

    may be it could be one option to place the airpace card into PCIe x1 above the grafics, if currently there, below the grafics

    after install the driver again

    @this moment no better idea

    Re: Airpace Wi-fi 1xPCIe problem

    I've tried the driver uninstall and install several times, alas, to no effect.

    The PCIe1x above the GPU is unfortunately blocked by its heatsink. I've tried to reseat the Airpace card within its slot a few times as well, but that didn't rid the problem either.

    Re: Airpace Wi-fi 1xPCIe problem

    I have the same Wi-Fi card and it has the same issue. After a restart, 90% of the times it doesn't show up in the device manager. The only way to make it work again is shuting down the PC and CUTING DOWN POWER SUPPLY a few seconds until motherboard is totally out of energy (turning off power supply or directly unplugging pc from the wall). Then, you can turn on your pc and Windows will see the card again. This always work.
    I haven't found any firmware or driver update for this wifi card to fix this issue. I only keep using this card because it is 1xPCIe and this is the only free slot I have.

    This is not a definitive solution but is at least a non-random way to make the card work.

    Re: Airpace Wi-fi 1xPCIe problem

    just have had some time that weekend, I tested that airpace wifi with AW9D-Max and IP35

    I didn´t used that Abit driver, instead off I downloaded the Atheros AR5006X

    you can download that driver here

    http://www.minipci.biz/atherosdriver...05.2000_xp.zip

    is for me running with WIN7 x64, Vista x86 and XP x86

    there are no problems like mentioned above

    may be its worth to try that way

    I have the same problems as Cistron and have had for more than 3 years, although mine only fails to initialize every 1 in about 60-70 i suppose.

    The different driver from above i tried a long long time ago and made no difference.
    I stick with it as it is single slot but may well change soon.

    A new motherboard is on the horizon for me (currently iX38 QuadGT), but since ABIT left all of its loyal customers high and dry without any support, i will throw their products out for the binman and go ASUS.
    This crappy wifi card will go out with it.

    three years ago, autumn 2006, the IP35 Series are not available yet;

    furthermore that driver linked above, in my opinion, is not the same driver you tried a long long time ago

    my airpace wifi is originally delivered with AW9D-Max retail bundle and for years not in use thats the reason I tried to reproduce may be that fault, but cannot up to now

    so it is only one possibility to handle with that

    Re: Airpace Wi-fi 1xPCIe problem

    Well, so either it is a hardware fault that slips through QA or a compatibility issue with certain motherboards. Either way, it is damn annoying and if I had a free accessible PCI slot, I would have switched to my Linksys card.

    Thanks for sharing guys. At least I know I'm not alone.
