AB9 Pro on standby then loses sound

One thing I've noticed with my AB9 Pro is if put the PC in Standby rather than Shutdown it turns itself off and if I press the Power button it turns back but the audio is screwed up. First thing I see is the Realtek HD audio tray icon in the system tray reports that "A jack has been unplugged". I only am using 2 channel audio and so there is just the one audio cable plugged in. But of course it is still plugged in even though the software thinks not.

Although in Control Panel it still shows the Realtek HD Audio as the driver, if I try to play any sound then I get errors (Divx comes up with Audio Tag 85 codec errors for MP3), playing system sounds says it can't playback the file or the file is corrupt etc. I've seen these before if you try to play audio with no sound card in the system.

Shutting the system down conventionally and rebooting brings everything back to normal.

Anyone seen this type of behaviour?

Once I have some time I will run some tests to see if I can replicate the fault, and try and find a solution for fixing it.

I have run several tests today and can't seem to find any issues with the sound. Can you please let me know the version of your bios and drivers you are using.

    V1.4 Bios

I reckon the bios is V1.4 (last two digits at bottom of POST screen). This is how the board arrived (about 3 weeks back).

The Realtek driver seems to have as many different version numbers as you care to choose and so I downloaded the latest from the Realtek site which say 1.54. The Abit site lists a V1.51. The version quoted in the Realtek utility is something completely different 5.10.00.5345.

Changing the audio driver makes no difference

I had this problem with the 1.2 BIOS I had originally (I think it was those ones), but I've not tested it with the newest BIOS as I now have a proper sound card, rather than the onboard sound.

I was running the board with bios 15 and had no issues with the sound.

Just finished testing the board with bios 14 and the sound card stop working after I resumed from standby. If you upgrade to bios to 15 then it will fix this issue.

    Will give it a go

I will try V1.5 BIOS. In fact the release notes for V1.5 does state that it fixes the audio issue on return from S3.

Now my AB90 Pro hangs at 2A

Well I updated to V15 BIOS to try to fix the sound problem. All seemed to work and it said remove diskette and hit F1. But after that it mostly hangs on startup with code 2A. It did boot once but then I had to restart and then it hangs again. Reset or power down makes no difference. Still seems to hang on 2A.

What do I do? Is there something I can do and keep V15 or do I need to reflash with the V14 BIOS (assuming that I can get as far as it booting from the floppy of course to reflash).

    Help please!

    Actually maybe OK

I did a CMOS reset using the jumper and then it started up fine again but then the problem returned on the next boot. So did a CMOS reset again and rebooted and noticed that I got the checksum error "hit F1 to continue or DEL to enter setup" message. Reckoned I got this before but then I must have hit F1 to continue and so this time I hit Del to enter Setup and then did an F10 to save and exit and it rebooted. Once booted I did a software restart and this time it rebooted OK. Have shutdown for the night - will try again tomorrow morning to check that all is still OK.

some people have reported that the 2A seems to be resolved by disabling the fan monitoring (it's on the abit-USA forum)

    Seems to be OK

Seems OK now. Looks like it was me being too hasty and not going into setup after the bios change to resolve the checksum
