    Someone mentioned not to buy the Apple mouse, and just use a standard USB mouse with more than one button, though if you did that, would the other buttons work anyway?

    Yes, the other buttons work, like right mouse button and scroll wheels etc.

    I use a "Kensington" laptop mouse that has a retractable cord, works well.
