Battery issue

I understand from some web research there's a problem with Macbook batteries where they suddenly stop working. I've got a Macbook which I've had for nearly a year and a half which has suddenly exhibited this issue despite the battery working fine and holding a three hour charge beforehand. Getting to the nub of my query what are my options? Will Apple replace the battery for free or will have to fork out some hard earned cash? Or is there another issue beside the battery that I need to be aware of?

They will replace it for free, just take it to an Apple shop or phone them and explain the problem. I had the same problem with my Macbook battery.

If it doesn't help (worked well for me) then they will replace your battery - sorted!

Already tried it but thanks anyway. Funny thing was tried it again just in case and for about 10 seconds the battery was briefly detected. in fact it's just happened again... Doesn't look permanent though.
