Mac experts here - Fonts etc

I may be purchasing a powerbook in the near future however I am worried that my fonts (PC) won't work as some are bought. I think they probably won't though. They are all type 1 (the files extensions are afm, pfb and pfm). I use adobe type manager light and entensis suitcase to organise them as I have loads. Does anyone know if they will work on a mac?

I also use Exact Audio Copy for my mp3s on Xp however there isn't a mac version. Is it possible to use this on virtual pc or would it be too slow?

Will all my extensions on firefox work on macs? - Tab browser preferences and ChromEdit especially or should they all work?

And my final question, are there any plug-ins which enable itunes to play flac files?

    Many Thanks

Extensis have a version of Suitcase for the Mac, so you shouldn't have any trouble in that respect. I've not met a font yet that hasn't worked for me.

I'll give EAC a try under VPC, but I doubt it'll work well. [edit] seems to be working fine [/edit]

afaik, the firefox extentions should be cross-compatible.

There aren't any iTunes plugins for FLAC yet, i've been looking. There are a couple of flac compressor/decompressor programs (I use MacFLAC) which will extract the WAV/AIFF so that you can recompress them using iTunes. ALC, Apple's Lossless Codec, is every bit as efficient as FLAC.

Cheers for the detailed reply. Very helpful.

Still not too sure about apple lossless though. Might be my only option though.

Could I possibly email a font to see if they will work on your mac? Just want to be sure thats all.

What would the speed of xp be like on virtual pc on a new powerbook? Is it quite slow?

    Cheers mate.

Virtual PC 7 is better than 6, but to brutally honest, I use it as little as possible.
It's bearable, but not really for anything other than necessities.

    That's on my G4 Powerbook 1.25ghz with 512mb RAM.

Little app called 'Font Book' that helps to manage your fonts...
