Powerbook 12 inch questions if you would be so kind

I've got the cashola to get a 12pb now and I popped into my local apple store to pick one up.

I'm after the 12in one with the superdrive , they didnt have any stock in at all and the nice chap checked with apple to see when they would be getting stock as they hadn't had any since feburary the 28th !!!

This strikes me as really odd is there a shortage on them at the moment?

Any one got a superdrive pb 12in in the last few weeks?

Also I was going to leave it with the standard 512mb of ram to start with until the prices drop on 1gig sticks of sodimm I take it there isnt much difference between the 512mb and sticking 768mb in?

What bags have people got to carry them about in? I was looking at the crumpler wee bee bag.

And finally any idea whether a ms blootoof mouse will work using the inbuilt blootooth in the powerbook?

I got my 12" with superdrive from apple on saturday, having ordered the week before. I have mine in one of those neoprene slips and whin i take it anywhere either in my normal bag or for more extensive travelling in a crumpler rucsac that also stores my digital slr. I got the 768mb for just that little extra oomph but may put in a gig stick when it gets cheaper. It is certainly very quick and tiger is especially nice!

I was going to get one of the neoprene ones as well as they are only 20quidish

Nice to know there are superdrive models out there.

What size hdd do you have in yours the standard 80GB? Is it 80gb when formatted or smaller like most drives

I don't think it's a case of there being a shortage, more that there is less of a demand for the walk-in customer; it isn't always the first need of someone after a v. small laptop to be able to make DVD's on the train too.

512-768, well, there isn't a huge differencce I'd wager, 512 will probably be enough for most things.

I've got a couple of bags. I've got a Brenthaven shoulder briefcase type bag, which is good, well protected and comfy. It does look a lot like a laptop bag though. I also have a STM backpack, which is really good,l nice comfy shoulder straps, lots of handy pockets, and also looks just like a normal backpack, no special laptop logos on it. I also have a nice sleeve for my powerbook, which gives it that extra edge of protection. They are pretty thing, so I tend to leave it in that even if it is going in the STm backpack or just a normal bag.

They said they were the store who had waited the longest so should be next to get them in. I've given them a week then I will look at other options. I'd prefer to get it from them instead of apple store so I can take it in if there is a problem

    Order it online Gordy?

There is always the Apple Store in Birmingham? Thats only up the M5?

As for RAM, 512 is enough, but I'd order it from crucial rather than apple, then sell on the apple ram, it would work out cheaper iirc.

As for the Superdrive option, I think like hb said, most people would rather burn a DVD at home rather than on an ultraportable etc? So perhaps not high demand.

Apple shortages occur quite often here in the UK. When I purchased this 17" PB last year, I had to have it ordered in as there was a nationwide shortage on this model.

512Mb is sufficient for most needs.....hell, I play WoW, FM2005, Dungeon Siege 2 and Ages of Empire on it, and there's not much lag. Photoshop on it runs great.

I would bet on the kingston working as the part is specifically for mac g4 powerbooks , dunno about the corsair though
