    Intel Rollout

Right thats it!!!....... I'm getting a mac!

After yesterdays announcement i'm 100% sure i'm going to buy a mac. However i'm not going to buy one of these IBM macs, i'll wait until the Intel range is out.

I know that the Mac Mini and iBook range will get the Intel chip first, but when will the iMac and others get it?

Are there any sites with rough guidelines to when the range will be rolled out?

    Thanks all

    Darren

I'd only hold off for an Intel based system if I wasn't interested in the G5. That is to say, if you were looking to buy an iMac or PowerMac then go right ahead and make your purchase. However, I definately would not buy a G4-based machine these days unless I wanted a cheap notebook (12" iBook). Basically I'm saying don't buy a Mac mini or PowerBook now, or a 14" iBook ever.

Bear in mind that the first revisions of all Apple hardware are crappy compared to the second revisions, so you will be waiting for the range update on any Intel based systems that are released, this will add about 6 months to your wait.

I really would love a PowerMac G5 - the min' spec one; i've grown out of the Mac Mini, the iBook is a beauty, but the Mini is slow and i really want a second hard drive too... In your opinion, is it a good time to go for a new G5?

It's not really a good or a bad time, it might be worth waiting to see if PCI Express makes it to the PowerMac, it's already in the iMac, and is worth waiting for over PCI-X.

another apple special event happening on wednesday - this time its an upgrade for the pro range - e.g. powermac and powerbooks...

hence buy a powermac next week when they get a nice bump in power and maybe even a slight drop in price

If the PowerMacs don't get PCI-E in that announcement I will be very confused.

    Edit: Score!
