i will use the macbook to play counter strike source

i decided to cancel the 1gig upgrade as the £59ish isnt bad for the upgrade, but I will probably get some mushkin off ebay for a bit less, and then i can keep the old stuff as well

So you guys have gone for the White one?

I am torn between the two.....
    White... well white IS apple
Black... exclusive, but same colour as my work IBM Stinkpad

Gonna go for the 2.0ghz, 1gb RAM, 80gb version, just need to choose colour and decide if it's worth the extra dough for the black one.

White is calling so far tho!

Avoid the black one like the plague It's a waste of money.

i played with both of them in the apple store, and while the black one may appeal more at first sight, it has its problems. Mainly how easily it marks - you touch it and you can see where you touched it. The store model was covered in marks - all removable of course but I don't like the idea of giving it a full clean each time I use it

It's also a matt finish on the case, which is most of the problem. The extra money just isn't worth it - if you want a black one why not just get your white macbook turned into a black one? They could do it with iBooks, so i'm sure someone will offer the service for macbooks eventually.

Plus the white one just looks better, and more like an apple notebook than a generic PC one That 130quid difference in price would buy you 2gig of corsair ram for your macbook from scan....

Make sure you insist on your free applecare..none of their sales staff know about it. Tell them to read their own terms and conditions lol. You can read about my problems earlier in this thread, link to the T+Cs are in there

I made a complaint to apple about it, and it's been 'escalated' apparently. That was last week - for fun today I phoned up apple for another quote - and directly asked them ' As a university student at staffordshire university, what warrenty do I get if I buy a macbook from the HE store?'

Their reply was '12 months from date of purchase, although we do have a special offer on the applecare for students, you get it for .....' etc. unbelievable, It has been weeks since I first spoke to a supervisor about it, a week since my complaint - and they are STILL mis selling it.

You get 3 years warranty for HE purchase, but it is slightly different to applecare.

As applecare just provides longer over the telephone support for the product, than the 3 year warranty that comes with the laptop. It is an international warranty too, which is good

True it is slightly different - but when asked the apple HE store staff have no idea that you even get the 36months of just hardware warranty - thats the issue here.

    And here are the T&Cs...

    http://www.cocopops.net/HE_TandCs.pdf

    In particular... point 10.1.1:
10.1.1 All Apple-branded desktop and portable computer products shall be
subject to a 36 calendar month warranty period commencing from the date of
    delivery.

Exactly it isn't 'apple care' but it is a 36 month warranty - which i am happy with.

The only difference that the man admitted (upon ordering) was that it didnt have the same length of telephone support.

    Cheers
