I know nothing at all about web site design but would like to learn.
Which Mac software is best for designing a simple website?
What do you use / recommend?

Nvu is quite good and Free - http://www.nvu.com/download.php
I've tried it in windows but should be the same for Mac OS.
I use iWeb
But I've only really used it for photos/vid etc

You can get Dreamweaver which is of course the daddy of website design software. If you are just wanting to upload pics etc then iweb is fine.
Dreamweaver rocks, its offical. So yeah, a copy of that would be best...
Daniel
If you can afford it!
Not around too often!
well i'm going to point you to http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp first, and to your copy of textedit thats installed on your mac.
Learning basic HTML is the place to start - even if you are going to be using a WYSIWYG editor to actually make your web page. It helps because most WYSIWYG editors (notoriously dreamweaver) produce really bad HTML code..and if you know what some of the code means you can fix it
once you have ran though that tutorial to give you the basics, I reccomend nvu as ash_rm did - its free, and despite its java based components it actually works rather well, in a similar way to dreamweaver. I've never tried iWeb, but it seems ok if you want to knock up a quick site..
Thanks for all that.
I now know where to start.
Cheers!
