ipod Video/picture transferring??

Hello All,

I ordered a refurbished ipod (30gig Video) on Monday and received it yesterday morning and spend last night adding my music to it. This was all fine, as I was used to the process because my girlfriend has a ipod mini. However, I have a couple of queries that I need help on.

The first is about video. I encoded some short sample video clips which I added to iTunes. These showed up and then I just dragged them to my ipod (through iTunes) and they then appeared fine once I had disconnected it from the computer. Played through them and all was great, but I am just wondering how I can delete them if needed. With music, you can select albums that are on your ipod and just delete them, but you cant see the videos anywhere – that I can find anyway. Also, in the ipod options, under the video tab, all the options are greyed out and unselectable. Is this normal?

The second question is similar, but with photos. I CAN select to synchronise to a folder, but is there a way I can just select what to put on and also what to delete. I cant see why they didn’t use the method for the addition/deletion of music…

Sorry for the long rant – but any help would be good…

As far as deleting them off your ipod, its the same as an album. Delete it from itunes and it'll get deleted off your ipod at the next sync.

Thats the thing - dont like to have it synched - i just always like to know when something is going on/off the ipod. Also - if i get a video uploaded from my girlfriends iTunes, then i cant delete it from my itunes as it wont be in my library.

Or if it is synched in that scenario, will it recognise that an extra video has been put on the ipod and update MY itunes accordingly???

I know you are going to say "Just synch itunes..." but humour me and me and pretent you didnt

Up to you to go digging around the ambiguously named files to delete the video then (good luck )

You may be able to download a 3rd party iPod organiser....but its much better to keep it synced with iTunes....

Just look at the iPod in iTunes (not the computer library) and you'll see a playlist called Videos. Delete it in there, sorted.

That only works if you synchronise the ipod - which i wasnt doing yesterday - but if its going to be too much hassle to sort out then its the way it has to be i guess. Just means that i cant get videos from 2 different iTunes...

Still think that its a bit flawed though. You can have an iTunes and and an iPod library, which can be different, but why not do the same for videos and pictures. To be honest i probably wont use thouse 2 features that much, but i always like to know what i can and cant do

I'm getting a 60Gb video soon, and this is the only problem i have found with them from playing about with my dad's ipod... I loathe iTunes.... Why can't i just have an MP3 player where i can drag/drop files onto an external device, that i can keep my own file structure in and be done with it?

What - and make you not use their own branded software...???? They arent THAT generous!!!!

I started using the synch and i must have accidentally deleted an album in it, because when i tried to play it today in the car, it had gone. My fault maybe, but thats the kind of thing that CAN happen with auto-synching. But in terms of the above, was talking to a mate about the above and I've now found you can (apparently) do the following:

1) Keep the library to "Organize manually" - so no mistake about what is on there and what isnt
2) Even if you DONT sych the pod+iTunes, if you browse ALL songs - videos are there, but just not in a videos category like in the main itune library. That way you can manually add/delete videos
3) Pictures have to be synchronised.

So I'm going totry that out tonight and see what happens. To be honest, maybe i will synch photos/podcasts and just leave the music to manual.
And Apple is meant to be easy...
