A magazine asked Peugeot about this and they said

"We're more realistic with our quotes"

have you ever been in a vts or pug gti? both ARE sub 8secs if u have a decent driver.

Girlfriends dad has the basic 206GTi, not the GTi180. Went to airfield with it other day and with 3 people in car we were doing sub 8.0s 60s all day. Tried it with just driver in car and we were averaging about 7.7s to 60

No but I've drove a Lupo GTI and thats got more bhp and weighs the same... and its about the same to 60 also..

anywayz, u say VTS's are sub 8secs? I think my car is about 7.5secs to 60 (realistic figure) ... so If a VTS can do it in 7.8secs then theres not be much between my car and the VTS yes? .... well why do I absolutely rape every VTS on the road?

All depends on the driver... you should know that.

Yes it does all depend on the driver when ya talking about 0.* of secs, but not ALL drivers can be that crap. And Im no Michael Schumacher

The only way to definitavely prove how fast one car is compared to another is to test them on a track, using the same driver, where that driver is good enough to consitently do 100 laps and take exactly the same line each lap (i.e the stig).

Anything else, is just bull. "i done a nova on the lights in my mini" does that mean the mini is the faster car? Dunno. Maybe the nova driver wasnt trying.... How do you know how hard he was pressing the throttle? How do you know he was taking his car up tot he red line in each gear like you were? How do you know? You don't know. Which is my point.

    *sigh*

agree 100% with butfuzz on this one - just cos you 'beat' someone doesnt mean you've a faster car. perhaps they wernt trying, or their car wasnt warmed up properly (my car performs badly at the best of times, but even worse when its just been started). perhaps they had something heavy in the boot, and a full tank of fuel. or perhaps they just couldnt be bothered wasting fuel in order to accellerate faster because they arnt sad enough to get satisfaction by simply having a faster car than someone else, and infact appreciate the finer things in life.

    Me too.

I very rarely push my car to anything like it's true potential. I just don't see the need, especially on the road. I like fast cars, but the main use I find for power is rapid overtaking. I don't mean screaming through a gap that's barely large enough just because I've got the acceleration to do it - I mean if you ARE going to overtake, minimise the hazard by getting out, past and back in quickly.

I've had a few idiots in sporty mini-racers challenge me at lights and despite the the fact that I could leave most of them standing, I can't be bothered to screech away from lights .... just to prove that I've got what? A bigger .... erm...., power to weight ratio?

I have to agree here. Ususally when people try to race me I pull away really slowly on purpose. I don't see any point in racing on public roads, especially when most cars aren't much of a challange.

t'other thing is that if cops see 2 people ripping away from lights they can do you for illegal racing on the roads. another reason not to do it..
