New car for my dad...?

My dads about to sell his 306, now its 7yo, and has 140k on the clock.

But he doesnt know what to get to replace it.
- And he's actaully selling the 306 to me, and i need it pritty soon.

He's a quick look at the 307, and isnt overly impressed, so were now wondering what to get him?

Sort of properbly somthing simualar to the 306 again.
- Its got to do a 1hours motorway comute and back relativly stress free.
- Carry 2+2 passangers, with some useable bootspace.
- And idealy be able to be used to teach my sister to drive, as she's begining of next year.





I had a look at mazdas offerings, but he's not sure about that.
- He's looked at BMWs, but i doesnt want to become a bmwdriver, and i think he only really wants a Z4...
- The feista/focus is a ford-like, and he didnt like the focus last time round, so would need some tempting to test drive one.
- His brother says he should get a Astra like he's got. But he's no convinced... ETC!!



So basicaly, anythoughts, suggestions welcomed.
- Otherwise i might just have to drag him down to FOW for a day!

Citroen C4? Same chassis as the 307, but *SOOOOOOOO* much better looking and feeling, inside and out.

Ford Fusion - absolutely lovely car - tons of room, higher than average ride hight....fairly zippy too

Can vouch for the Fabia. FIL has just got the 1.4 diesel, but you wouldn't know it's only got 3 cylinders.. goes like a train and returns over 55mpg while it's doing it (4 up and 2 sizable hounds in the boot) Seems to have more room inside it than the Polo it's based on as well.

As has been said, budget would help.

My thinking is something along the lines of a c4, or possibly skoda octavia 1.9tdi? bit bigger, but nice to drive, spacious interior and rapidly dropping in price

- I'll ask him about Budget
- But just roughtly he's looking to get mid-range new-used car, like the 306 which was a 6month old ex-hire car. Or else something like that. Will get back to you on that.

My cosins share a fabia and it isnt a bad car, certainly without compairing it to Polo it is quite spacous.

Thats another issue actaully. He plays baratone saxaphone (the big ones) and needs to be able to get in into the car, out of view.
- In otherwords, the boots got to be bascialy no smaller than a 306 boot. Proberbly about the size you need for a golfbag or somthing.

Ive just beeing over at my mates, and he's been trying to convise me i should but a "practical permormance car" as the magazine calls.
- He has a Reliant Scimitar. With a 3L V6 Essex in it
- And his brother has a Capri. That hes going to but the essex when he fits the V8 in the scimitar!!

How about the new Nissan Qashqai (pronounced Kash-qai).

Good reviews, good engine/transmission range (1.6 or 2.0L petrol with either 6 Speed manual or auto CVT or 1.5L Diesel 6 Speed Manual or 2.0L Diesel with either 6speed manual or auto), 2WD or 4WD option on certain engines, fairly good value, Quite roomy, Good sized boot. I am ordering one soon.
