If the mods feel this is pushing the limits a little far, then feel free to remove it.

Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson trying to get an Audi A8 4.0 TDi from London to Edinburgh and back again on 1 tank of fuel. Tis quite a good watch.

    Re: Tips for driving economically

Dont slow down for pedestrian crossings. Braking wastes energy and requires more fuel to get back up to speed. People produce CO2 so if you kill a couple, you're really helping the environment!

Having a display showing current 'live' fuel consumpton can be handy, shows how acceleration really kills it. Can be VERY distracting though!

    Re: Tips for driving economically

    Walk.

    Use a bicycle.

If driving, brake as little as possible.

I heard that last tip from drivers who were having a contest as to who could get the highest mileage, interviewed on the radio.

Ever noticed in an urban enviroment how much the driver in front of you has their foot on the brake? Way too much imo

    Re: Tips for driving economically

The price of fuel is just a joke these days. The government must be able to find other ways of filling the holes they created. Maybe taxing the banks more would be better. Many people find it very difficult to afford running a vehicle these days.

    Re: Tips for driving economically

Here's an easy one: don't fill the fuel tank to its maximum as otherwise you're carrying around a lot in unnecssary weight. Take out the passenger headrests: its not like you're going to be sitting in the back seat. Just ask your passengers to lean forward (this may also add to the forward momentum of the vehicle).
You might also want to consider adding racing stripes.
Oh and don't attach those bloody union jack flags to the radio antenna as it increase wind resistance. Whilst you're at it, take off the antenna cause there's never anything good on the radio.
Take the radio out [see previous reason].
Also cut out a hole in the floor and wherever possible use your feet.

Yet more people are owning them than ever before, and cars are still by far the cheapest form of transport in most cases. Not to mention the total cost of travelling by car has come down in real terms over the years, despite this so called 'joke price' of fuel. Fuel prices need to go up if we're going to have any effect on people's transport.

They are NOT headrests . They are restraints, designed to protect you in a case of a collision.
