Mapped? As in the ECU? You won't gain much from a n/a petrol engine by doing that, you'll have to go into more extensive methods of tuning

Yeh i have been talking to a freind with a rotex charged civic, and he said he preffered it when it was mapped out, and much more progressive.
"Kick is actually slight drop off in torque at cam change"
Anywho im test driving a honda, so hopefully will be able to report back good things
Which Civic? VTi? Or a newer Type S/R? You know Hondas are the future

Wheres that quote from? Its complete bollocks, the kick in the arse when the cam changes comes from in an increase in power, which is <torque> x <enginespeed>. THeres no way a drop in torque can result in an increase in power.
VTEC is also not 'just' a marketing slogan, it, along with VVTI, MIVEC etc, all all variations on a theme. The reason why the engine likely feels nicer remapped is that its actually an iVTEC one, and the map either has it on the lumpy cam all the time, or, it phases the intake a lot sooner.
Its from aguy who has a civic on the forum i use, he does know his stuff so maybe i shall ask him what he means... his civic doesnt have the vtec kick anyhow... mapped out but has a charger instead
From what I have seen certainly you seem to be able to get more honda for your money at around this price. I saw a 2000Xreg 2.0 VTi Accord for under £3k.

I would definatley go for the Accord. I have owned one for 6 years now. Driven a 2.0 Focus Zetec as well, Focus is a decent car. However I would always choose the accord.
Infact when it goes I am pretty certain it will be replaced with anouther.
You could always get a Type-R. I soo want one, but don't want to give up my topless MX-5 for one.

Well, as a bit of a dream I have been looking at Toyota celicas... Theres a S Reg Toyota SR for sale near me, just over £4k..... stunning motor, but dont know much about them, i.e. how reliable etc. they are for a slightly older car.

Celica's
The gen you're talking there were 3 standard models: ST, GT and GT4.
The ST has a 1.8 136bhp as is heavy and therefore slow. Also standard alloys are nasty! (IMHO)
The GT has a 2.0 169bhp which is much more like it. Similar performance to the Civic VTi but more torquey.
The GT4 has a 2.0 205bhp (Turbo), 4WD and body kit. Won a rally championship or two.
Generally reliable. Plenty of odd coloured ones about and a raft of grey-imports going for tempting prices. Watch out for ST's masquerading as GT's, there's a world of difference in performance.
GT4's need loads of care and attention. Bank on Scooby/EVO levels of cost if used properly.
Overall The GT is the one to buy and is a very nice car. Comfy, laid back with enough performance without shouting about it

Im not so worried about it being the fastest, remember, its going to be a considerable step up from my comparitively slow 1.4 golf..
Looks pretty smart I think... and could insure it for £40/month.

I remember the old thread when you bought that Golf Yes it'll feel like a rocket in comparison
Yeah that does look smart, and it's japanese so it'll last I'd hazard a guess at parts being slightly more expensive than the Accord, but just find the newest, nicest one you can for the cash and you'll be set I reckon Just be aware of the big doors and coupe-shape when you're parking it, etc

Only thing I would say about the Celica is that the head room is useless front and back, if you have friends that are tall they aren't going to want to sit in that for very long! I know one of the guys I live with has one and I am 6' 2" and it is a pain.
I really wouldn't touch the SR, they are truly horrible to drive. GT is definately the one to go for. Me personally, I want a white GT4 with Castrol stickers all over it
