I was only taking into account them not having to load the bricks, but simply push equal barrows full of them! Duh me

But that is a great example of this. That wasnt necessarily turbo lag, but the turbo wasnt spooled up to the correct speed/boost pressure thus not creating the torque.

Same assumption I made. I was thinking of these two foreign guys on the start line grunting at each other. I never thought of making multiple trips.

And gears = torque converters (although clutch is a better example)

Or if the ninja wanted more time he should have tipped a load of bricks into the sumos lane! Slow him down!

Those truck engines are truley stunning I can tell you.

My Dad drives a DAF CF85.340 for work. Now it's a 12.6 Straight Six (2.1 litres per cylinder!) with a turbo, 340bhp and 1000lb ft of torque at the dizzying height of 1000rpm. Your average car would be spluttering at those revs!

Re: Torque and Power: Who wants to describe them?

Torque in Newton Meters... 1Nm works out to 1J

Power in Watts... 1W is 1J per second

    So.... 1W = 1Nm/s

Or.... with our love of feet. 1bhp = 550 Lbs ft/second

Of course, I should think if we where logcial about this, some of our Polish friends would have the bricks moved and the house built before the Sumo had finished his power shakes.

Some of the rigid trucks we work with are 600bhp with 1800Nm of torque, Thats bone crunching. However you should see the cooler. It nearly has its own postcode!

if that's all true, that's a really very useful piece of information

The Air filter for my dads DAF could comfortably contain my Pugs engine! Know what you mean!

And wtf you do that needs 600bhp rigids? Moving everest? No-one in the tippers goes over about 400 as you never need it and all it means is they sup fuel even faster.

These are 50 tonne muck movers, big things. They need all the torque they can get. The turbo is massive too/!

Re: Torque and Power: Who wants to describe them?

Torque gives the ultimate amount of force the engine can apply to the road via the wheels. Power gives the ultimate amount of energy (i.e fuel) that will be used in doing so...

I see so Earth Movers, not road HGVs.

    Fair enough.

Completely wrong. I think you should re read Zak's analogy.
