ST220's are great cars but I'd personally be suspicious of one for as little as £3.5k. They exist at this pricepoint but they tend to be the lower end of the market, and buying this sort of car from the lower end of the market is not advisable.
You'd get a GOOD 2.5 Zetec-S, though.

I sold my car today! So I'm finally in a position to buy a car...
Anyone have any thoughts on low mileage ex police cars 03 - 05 reg?

Used and abused BUT serviced no expense spared. Keep in mind though, that there usually sold just before major services.
I would go for an ex traffic car, but never a general panda car, someone on the SXOC has had an Ex traffic V70 T5 v.happy with it, and again on the SXOC/OOF someones got an Ex Traffic 3.2 Omega, and other than a few marks here and there in the interior and needing a new stereo headunit/filling in a few holes in the roof, there alot of car for the money.
Just bought a black Skoda Octavia VRS - ex under cover police car - full service history serviced every 10k, it's done 81k, and was last serviced at 80k looks mint outside - continental tyres all round - only problem so far is that I had to reconnect the front speakers - it looks like they were used for police equipement. Has the 6cd changer in the boot, the only thing I'll probably miss from my Passat is the cruise control, and a few other comfort features (lights above vanity mirrors, auto sensing wipers, auto dipping rear view mirror). Much prefer the ride and handling, and shocking accelleration of the Skoda though

Is the engine standard or has it been played with?
225bhp is easy to get out of them with a relatively cheap chip

Front legroom is fine - but rear legroom is noticably less - with the baby seat reclined when the baby is sleeping (front facing) - we do have to move the passenger seat forwards slightly otherwise his feet are against the seat. I'm going to try fit some wheels in the boot tonight so I'll report on that later... I'm kind of wishing I had bought an estate But hatchback should be fine the boot looks big so far.
