Why? Probably because we don't use signs that are quite as easily hacked
Because it's more fun if they surprise you.
LOL !
I always find the ones in Scotland much better, when there's no urgent notices they just put up general advice like "Try to be a courteous driver"
Best one I've seen on British Roads was "Caution Oncoming Vehicles!" - WTF !
It was the one time everyone DID slow down... is it a granny doing 30 down the hardshoulder, or some nutter doing a ton down the fast lane... Didn't see anything in the end.

No, all they say is "Check your fuel!", they don't go that extra little bit and suggest filling up if you are low
There's a sign near where I live that says "you are now entering a road safety zone". Presumably when you leave the zone you can be as unsafe as you like.
My favourite matrix was going into town. It said "Remember! Cyclist are road user too!" [sic]. So there's just one, then.
Some more HERE.
Having struggled to get the Police to allow me to cycle past an accident they were clearing up tonight I'd like to know why they don't leave the car remains on the side of the road.
After all, seeing a sign stating the number of casualties on a section of road is one warning but seeing a car with the doors and roof cut off on a verge is surely a stronger warning of the dangers of a stretch of road!
one or the other, cant have both

"Pedestrians In Road" is another good one. That and "Congestion Ahead, Slow" at 4am. You need these preset warnings in there to prepare for any eventuality. I don't see why "Zombies Ahead" shouldn't be in the system just in case.
The US ones are much less secure than the UK ones though.
True. Never heard of "rubber knecking" BlackKnight?
