British Gas raises energy prices.... AGAIN!

WTF do they think theyre doing?!?!?!?
    From the BBC:
British Gas owner Centrica has said it plans to raise gas bills by as much as 12.4% for its 10.7 million customers.
The firm's 5.8 million electricity customers will also face a 9.4% increase in their bills from September.

British Gas said "unprecedented high wholesale energy costs" had made the price increases necessary.

News of the fresh round of price rises came as British Gas reported record losses of £143m during the first six months of the year.

Earlier this week, rival EDF Energy announced it would be raising gas bills by 19% from next Tuesday, while Scottish Power said two weeks ago that it would also be increasing bills.
Ant that's after the 22% rise announced in Feb, which came into force on 1st March. It's getting beyond a joke, with petrol set to reach £1/litre shortly it's becoming increasingly more expensive just to exist. My meagre yearly wage rise is just not covering the increase in my bills

In fairness to them - they did announce a loss, what really takes the piss is when a company has record profits THEN puts the prices up...

What do they think they are doing? Reacting to simple supply and demand market pressures, that's all.

We don't have a God given right to carbon-based fuels, you know?

what else can they do if the price of the gas they are buying has risen. Other companies will be raising their prices too, so its not just British Gas that should get the blame.

Perhaps the CEO and board of directors of the Gas companies can start by forfeiting all their bonus and taking a 75% immediate wage cut frozen for the next 5 years.

This might generate some public sympathy and undestanding. I am sure most of the people in the country don't even make 25% of what they make.

It's a hard life being a common man/woman or being poor.

Noone is being forced to buy gas from them. There is an open market on residential gas supply you know?

i would much rather they up prices and make sure that their business is sustainable - if they went bust we'd all be very very cold.

but then, i dont have gas in my flat

The problem is gas is running out. THey knew this for years but took so long to get off their butts to do anything about it. Now its a panice to rasie the funds for reasearchthat should have been done long ago.

THedays of gas is number, Fuel cells have reached a good economic state but oil companies are holding them back. Micro C.H.P and wind is now available for domestic use.

Methonol and other 'more sythectic' fuels available (Oil can be produced from pig fat, not yet economically viable.) Fusion power has nowreachedbreak even pointwith the exception of laser pellets but fundings is ever fallingas interest wanes.

tbh, the rivals are almost certainly running at a loss so they can get to a point where they have a large enough customer base to whack their prices up. Good for us, for now, but bad when they go bankrupt..
