    Re: My Old Torque-less Scrabblewagon

Yeah that's my view too. The JDM front looks best in Championship White, but UK's look best in Black or Milano Red (more pink nowadays).

I was originally thinking of a JDM model until someone pointed out the headlights resemble that of a Vectra, then it was UK all the way........ but seriously the circle lights look better in the flesh, pictures flatter the JDM's.

I like both versions but I have to say this one look really sweet.

I have to say that I prefer the DC5 version, £5 short of £9K should get you one (trade) in good nick.

Insurance will be high indeed, and considering even 8 year old examples with average miles are going for £9k+ they are heavily overpriced in my eyes, for £9k you could get a low mileage 4 year old EP3 in mint condition easily..

    Re: My Old Torque-less Scrabblewagon

Yep, the DC5's pricey at grp 20 (for me, 32yrs old, 6 years NCD, clean licence) the cheapest I got was £690 fully comp (with a £250-£300 vol excess+legal protection). Definitely expensive to insure, after that I got curious to see how much insurance was for a Skyline, £700-ish but it had to have a tracking device fitted otherwise no go .

Haha £690 to insure a DC5 is only something I can dream of i'd be looking at least triple

Can't wait to get abit older theres no real difference between a 21 year old and lets say a 25 year old, except in car insurance

    Re: My Old Torque-less Scrabblewagon

The issues with insurance on some of these cars is more to do with the fact that they are imports, the insurace company will slap a huge amount on top of the standard insurace. eg my MX5 is over £1000 a year becuase its a Jap import it would be about £650 if it was a UK version.

    Yep tell me about it!

Uk S14, really wasnt that bad to insure. On an import Silvia it was a whole different matter. They either wouldnt insure it, or there was a BIG jump circa £400-£500

    Re: My Old Torque-less Scrabblewagon

I was speaking to a fella from a specialist car insurance company.

As the majority of people who own Intregas are classed as enthusiasts who look after there motors, your insurance quote will be an awful lot less than lets say an EP3 Civic of the same value as they are owned mostly by ''Joe Public'' as he described them, even though the Intrega's are higher insurance groups as they are mostly owned by enthusiasts they are less likely to crash there pride and joy. And that is shown in your quote. The OP seems to be one of them also.

    Re: My Old Torque-less Scrabblewagon

I wouldn't be so sure about the difference in the insurance between a 21 and 25yr old anymore. I didn't find much of a difference at that age (heck when I started driving I looked at getting my own insurance, third party, for an Austin Metro and, if memory serves, they asked for around £690). Just don't expect great prices from Norwich Union/Aviva, one year the cheeky sods put up my quote £156 for the same car.

I suppose when I look at it objectively £690 isn't quite so bad (considering what other people have to pay). I saw it as a tad pricey as it's only 5 groups higher than my 200 coupe (grp15 and I'm paying £275 fully comp) but on reflection I'd be getting damn near double the performance (or more).

    Re: My Old Torque-less Scrabblewagon

    Holy thread resurrection.

But the Teg has been put into semi-retirement, and while i'm sure people are very interested to hear about its replacement I thought it best to do a write-up on how the car has treated me over the 3 and a bit years of running her.

Firstly, I don't do many miles (I live 5 miles from work) so although I've owned her and driven her almost every day for those 3 years I've only covered 17k ish. But I'm happy to report in that 17k she has not missed a beat.

On average she gets about 28 - 31mpg, which considering my short commute and my large size 13's is quite impressive in my book, of course this is on the more expensive super unleaded (99% of the time, V Power).

Originally she came shod in 195/55/15 Bridgestone RE010's, which if you believe the hype are the tyres to have, and they are impressive - at least in the warm dry conditions we get for ooohhh about 2 days a year. The rest of the time i found them anything from 'lacking' to 'downright dangerous'. So when the time to replace them came, and the RE010's were VERY hard to get hold of I went for some Michelin Pilot Exalto 2's. The same tyre the similar power and weight Clio 182 runs, big improvment. The car no longer slid around in the wet like a duck on a frozen lake. It was finally a usable car, one even my mum drove as her daily for a week (and loved every minute of!). The PE2's also shown me the way on a track day of Oulton Park, and what an experience that was. The Integra was sublime on the limit, very communicative and a hell of a lot of fun. It gained extra 'man points' for driving me there, round the track all morning, out to McDonalds and back at lunch, round the track all afternoon and back home without so much as a warning light. Oh and in case your wondering, she averaged 8mpg that day . The PE2's sadly started to show their age a month ago and were replaced with some Hankook S1 EVO's that a friend happened to have going very cheap, they wouldn't be my tyre of choice but they have impressed me - especially in the monsoon conditions we've had lately.

I cannot recommend driving one of these cars enough, for those who still doubt FWD can be a performance car platform - you absolutely have to try these. It handles like no FWD i've ever driven, and is second only to an Audi R8 as the most fun car I've driven. While she will understeer, and do that annoying front end scrabble away from lights - you have to be trying, at the limit it is such a neutral car - i'd even go so far as to say you steer it from the rear, I'm not good enough of a driver (or an engineer) to explain why it's so good, there are plenty of threads around the internet about this - I'd just say, if you get the choice DRIVE ONE.

So in 3 ish years, and 16k she has needed 3 services, 1 Brake fluid change (thanks Oulton Park) and 2 full sets of tyres. For a car thats now 13 and a half years old i think that's good going, not even a bulb has blown in that time.

Why have I put her into effective retirement? Because age and careless people in car parks have started to take their toll. The old girl is no longer what you can call a 'minter' cosmetically at least, and I want to enjoy her for many years to come - and if i carried on using her daily i fear the dreaded tin worm will kill her. So i'm putting her into storage over the winter, then starting in the spring she will be getting lavished with attention - bringing her back to the state I bought her in. I have every intention of using her in the summer for long drives, track days and maybe even for some local shows.

What have i replaced her with for daily driving? A 2008 MK4 Mondeo Estate........... with the 2.5T from the ST, so it's not all bad.

I intend to update this thread next year once she's had her makeover, but for now here is a picture from Oulton Park earlier this year - Ignore me looking like a complete berk.

    Thanks for reading.
