My first mini-accident in the car...

Damn it! I caught this car going round a really tight corner, with a taxi in my way to help things. Anyway, no body damage done to his or my cars (mine has slight scratches and a big red mark) but something on my car managed to cath his lights and pull out the back left lights. Heres two pics of his/her car:

I was really upset about it, even though it wasnt that much. I tried ringing the nearest doorbell but no answer, so I left a note with my number on on the car's windscreen.

How much do you guys reckon this is going to cost me to get this fixed for whoever's car it is? I'm hoping they can't try to take me for a ride with this and claim for a full respray or anything, especially as I took a few pics. I think I did the right thing by just leaving a note and driving off, but Im realy worried now that its going to be some really non-understanding git who just has a go at me for hours! And I really can't afford to pay too much!

I am not a happy bunny!

I wouldn't worry.. the last red Micra that tangled with my van got it's face pushed in... but seriously, the most you're looking at is some screws and a light cluster... shouldn't too expensive.. and you have pictures too so that's a bonus

What a cheaky bugger that micra is.....I have a H reg LS, but have 1 wing mirror, no sunroof, no black plastic stripe down the side, no hub caps, and no lights falling out

I really cant see it costs very much to get it repaired, 1989/90 nissan....

Hopefully they will appreciate the fact you left a number so you can both sort this out, I know would.

Surely its his fault if he's on a keep clear / yellow lines.

If it happened to me and the person was courteous enough to leave their name and number I'd understand. After all, it was an accident?

Car parts can be surprisingly expensive, but I doubt it'll be hideous amounts for a new cluster and some touch up paint

It would be expensive if he went to a Nissan garage to try and get the part, but if he does what Skii said and get him self down to a scrappy I wound think it will be under £20.

If the person is nice to you then just get on wif sorting it out. If they start having a go tho...merely start getting mardy back by pointing out how bad the parking was, especially as its over double yellows, in keep clear and also parked on the kerb!

Also...how far is the car away from the corner/junction?

They are going to get back to me once theyve sorted it out with the mechanic dude, who was going to do an annual service today anyway.

As to how far from the corner, say, under a metre? Thereabouts anyway.

That's probably the reason why there is a keep clear on the road

Does it make any difference that you hit him when he was illegally parked.
I mean it doesnt make it his fault rather than yours, no??

Nah it wouldn't make it his fault, since it was you who hit him. Being parked on double yellows isn't an open invitation for your car to get smashed up.

Just meant that if he does get arsey about it and threatens with legal action (unlikely) you can use it in your defence and a lot of people would tend to take your side.
