    London F1 Track

London’s streets last night reverberated to a different kind of traffic noise as F1 stars past and present drove current F1 cars up Regent Street in a precursor to this weekend’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone. An estimated 500,000 people lined the short route to see the cars in action, with stewards describing the masses as a “wall of people.”

Didn't spot any TV coverage though, other than the news. Hope they feature it on one of the weekend's programmes...

Was watching some news and it said some people were against it becuase it would be dangerous.....i just wondered how stupid they were!? dont if they thought spectators would be able to stand behind the plastic barrriers that they were when they were going up regents street.....fools.

A London GP would be awesome, im all for it.

When I think of what made the GP last weekend special it was the fact that one of the top running cars actually overtook another on the track at the end of the race. What is sad is that it was so out of the ordinary. The Monaco GP is a great spectacle but that's all. At the moment as a racing venue it is a dud. Unless the leader away from the grid does something daft or his car breaks down; he wins. A GP on the narrow streets of London would be the same. Spectacular, yes. A race? I doubt it.

I love motor sport but I have drawn away from formula 1 over the years because it has become so damn boring. Compared to other formulas it just isn't exciting anymore. I for one will be glad when they 'dumb down' the cars and make them race again. Then we will see the mettle of the drivers, hopefully.

Where, on London's streets would a car with the power of an F1 find a place to overtake? And if one did then you can be sure the organisers will do what they did at Monaco after Mansell got past Senna at the end of the tunnel. They'll put a chicane there to stop that kind of nonesense.

If the upcoming regulations succeed in making the cars race again then a London GP would be awesome the same as the old Monaco GPs were. But until then I for one am not going to get excited. I would rather see the touring cars or TVR Tucsons battle it out around town. How about the Porche cup?

Mind you, the sight of a Ferrari buried in the front door of Buck house would be a bit of a grin

I took some pictures with my Nokia 6230, not at the race track though. But I did get a few pics of the F1 Jag. I'll get them uploaded and make a thread later today.

At least there are no roundabouts, narrow arches, traffic islands, large buildings etc. at Silverstone. Having driven around London I have half the story. Once I've done a track day at Silverstone I'll compare the two for myself. Somehow though I think I know which I would prefer as a race venue.

It'd be completely mental to hold it in Central.

It would RULE, sure! But think of the chaos!
