    Your hazard perception score

We had a couple of threads about this, and there seems to be a lot of agreement about this test being appauling. Emzay mentioned something that made me think - she said her score of 54 was the highest among the people she knew, and 54 does not sound like a groundbreaking score on paper.

I took the hazard test recreationally - i wanted to know whether i would pass if i had to take it - and i failed my first test. I passed the second time with 49, although 2 videos were wasted by freezing and then jumping forward of the videos.

So what score did you get? I am going to try and make this multiple choice so that you can vote for both your first and subsequent attempts if you failed the first time.

I had to do this 'test' when I took my bike licence. It's frightening that people are failing it at all, more so probably blaming the 'test' for being crap.

Anything less than 65 is shameful.

Go and do it again, so you can walk the streets without hanging your head in shame. That, and don't drive where I drive/ride.

I've been driving for 4 years now. Not a huge amount of experience, but enough to notice that when a car starts getting close to another one on a motorway it will probably overtake it and is going to develop into a hazard. In the actual test though i do not know if me clicking it will be counted to early or not, so i wait for it to turn the indicators on and then click. Maybe in a proper test environment i would be more agressive and would have scored more.

I also take exception to the constant freezing (not system limited i believe as it was on a 3.00 p4 with 1gb of ram) and to poor video quality.

As for driving where you live - i don't think i'd want to.

It may be that the mock test is done appaulingly while the real one is a beaut, but i really doubt that. Maybe i also spent more time admiring familiar streets than concentrating on the test, but i don't think it was that either.

I didn't have to do one either. But i had a go when i had a chance. And your attitude is not helping discuss the problem. And if I am "kids" - does that make you an old fart?

The test is never going to recreate real life. How can you? Clicking on a jumpy screen is no where near having to assess a situation. Sometimes, the best option doesn't involve jumping on the brakes. Are you ever showed your rear and side mirrors in the hazard perception? Is there even an option asking what you'd do? Nope.

It's just spotting them, on an old PC. Spotting them is the first action point, and argueably the easiest part of a 'hazzard.' What's done about the 'after' bit, once you've seen the hazzard?

    Not much.

Thus, the test, imo, really doesn't hold up to much.

As for the premiums bit, I was joking. I'll be all serious from now on.

I suggest you get the cd with mock test. Once you know what to do you'll be fine, but you do need a strategy, its not just mindless reaction clicking as they may not register it if they didn't expect it this early.

I got a copy of the hazard perception mock test for my pc and failed it load of times until I learned the trick to pass it. I was seeing the hazards too early and clicking BEFORE the first invisible marker (the one where they expect you to start clicking).

It's ok though, cos I've been driving 6 years now and don't need to worry about such trivialities!

Thats the thing - you end up needing to click when YOU detect it and then again quickly after that coz you are never sure they picked it up

I personally think the Hazard Perception test is a REALLY GOOD idea. I think the current implementation of it is terrible. It is too unrealistic and 'technique based' (that is, your computer usage technique) rather than driving skills and ability based.
