    Brown Bread

Anyone ever used sound proofing............ (Dynamat, Brown Bread, etc.. etc..)

Yes... brown bread is a name of a sound proofing mat. cool name innit

Wheres the best place to buy it? Any cheap places online?... I'm thinking about sound proofing my car doors. Any ideas how much I need? Somebody suggested 3 rolls but that seems quite alot for 2 large doors.

    Any comments?

Looked around at the Brown Bread and Dynamatt etc. in the end went for soundproofing sheets (Aquaseal?) from Brown Bros. (Yell for nearest) as it was quite a bit cheaper

After much discussion I was given the impression that they're all the same (Dynamatt, Brown Bread, Aquaseal) apart from Dynamatt Extreme athough many people disagree - but usually people that have bought Dynamatt. In the end it is a bitumen based anti-vibration sound barrier whichever you buy.

I used it on the boot floor to get my hearing back after fitting the Powerflow exhaust and it did make a difference. Going to do the doors next year when I fit new front speakers. Be warned though, it can be addictive and end up with you taking the dash out to soundproof the back of it to get rid of that last squeak/rattle by which point your car weighs the same as a fully loaded artic.

3 rolls sounds about right for the doors, complete coverage is what counts, not just a piece here and a piece there. I've heard quotes of 20-30 rolls to do a full car (small/med 3 door hatch). Although I haven't done the doors yet...

Have a look on http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/vbb/index.php for more info about soundproofing and read some of the (sometimes heated) discussions about different brands.

Also, http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/ often have good deals on bulk packs of Dynamatt and Extreme.

This stuff is good, but very very expensive for what it is.

It's excellent for stopping the 'nova effect' if you have subs in your boot. It's basically self adhesive roofing felt without the stonechip. Brown bread also has a metallic backing. The best stuff to buy is actually 'Wickes self-adhesive roofing felt' choose the underlay felt without the stonechip and your sorted. £20 buys you a roll big enough to do several cars. A heatgun is also required to properly apply it. Brown Bread is stickier but no more effective, and would cost hundreds for the same quantity.

Interesting been wonding about this myself

On cleaning me datsun from head to toe on the weekend i noticed there was absolourly sod all sound proofing in the boot what so ever! Apparently they never bothered sounproofing them! Crazy japs.

It explains why when i go out i can hear the ants and spiders screaming as i run them over.

So 'Wickes self-adhesive roofing felt' sticks to the metal if you heatgun it? It may be worth a try!

    Cheers TeePee

Ever since changing my exterior door handles to colour coded ones, My doors seem to rattle like hell.... Its because I have broken the silicon seal on the door cards. So I'm gonna strip them all back down again, sound proof the doors and also put new silicon on the door cards. It should make them pretty solid

Might have a look at Wickes/B&Q and see whether that roofing felt looks upto the job.
