Thoughts / pics of the mods this weekend... (defo not 56K)

Here we go. Firstly, the new dials inside:

    http://www.al004a2442.pwp.blueyonder...ges/Clio68.jpg

Much better, though the flash made the panel they fit in look reflective - it's all the same colour in normal light.

    Next up, the BMC CDA:

    http://www.al004a2442.pwp.blueyonder...ges/Clio70.jpg

    http://www.al004a2442.pwp.blueyonder...ges/Clio73.jpg

As you can see, it's a blummin tight fit. No chance of having a cold air feed on the intake side of it. It sits smack behind the headlight too which will be good for Pod - take the headlight on and it's got all the cold air it could ever want! Underneath the headlight there's a seal which we've removed and air easily gets in there. After a test run the intake side was cold and the intercooler noticeabley cooler. Power and torque are a bit better - I was suprised, I didn't think I'd notice the difference. It seems to have a bit more go at the lower end of the RPM scale, and is the same higher up the rev range. The only real downer is that the turbo spool noises are significantly muted. Still, it looks cool, and it's definately better. Worth 170 quid? Nah.. Good job I didn't pay that for it!

    Last mod: Philips GT150 bulbs.

Remember how I moaned about having crap headlights? Picked up a pair of GT150's at Autosport and put them in. They're superb - with them off you can see a nice blue look in the headlight itself (look at the pic of the headlight with them off above) and when they're on you get a lovely blue hint which you can't see that well in the photos. Light on the road is superb, with them using the same 50% more light technology they use in their other high end bulbs. They're E marked, and don't draw any more that 55/60w which is also great - cops can't pull you for using them! Well recommended!

why not go with the osram silverstars ? they one the autoexpress group test a while back and are great bulbs

i have four of em in my car , not a fan of these blue tinted lights atall looks very max powery infact no doubt thats probably been one of there daft freebies

personally i would get the osrams they were designed for maximum light for there power draw

also try fiddling with your headlamp adjusters tilting them up just that little bit made my lights much much better at night
i also use my front fogs on backroads a etc at night as they illuminate the the side of the road and the road just infront of the car very well

another mod to consider is beefing up the wireing to your lights a very popular mod for calibras as there very weak

as u can tell i like to see whats going on an night my next step is hid lamps have u considered them there alot cheaper these days u can pick up good quality kits from 250 to 400 quid

I've got an S13 200sx - the factory wheel was orirble and a bit big for me
The OEM headlight units are a little cracked so in the best way of "uprate rather than replace" I fitted the crystal cut units. An HID conversion is tempting , but I'll have to see what cash I have left over.

nb. Its intresting that most of the jap cars of that era share the same popup headlamp unit.

Osram bulbs are poor quality - hate to say it but they're not made very well. They might of won the test, but a Philips bulbs is waaaaaay better made. The GT 150s are also designed for maximum power draw - they're the same bulb as the Vision Plus, just with a tip that's very slightly blue. Doesn't effect the light colour at all, just the look of the light in the headlight itself.

I don't use my fogs since I don't want a 30 fine, plus they're being replaced my scoops to cool my brakes down anyway.

Beefing up the wiring is a possibilty. You do get a small improvement with the Clios, but I'd have to be pretty bored to do that.

HID kits aren't for road use yet. They don't have the washers and stuff with them so you can't legally install them on a UK car and use them on the road sadly. They're also silly money!
