Don't the US have much worse traffic congestion in the cities than we do in the UK making driving a manual a bit of a 'mare and hence the large amounts of automatic cars?

Yea, but I dont live in a city I got the car cause of its style and interior, while it doesnt have a smal turning radius it still turns very nice! And the double wishbone suspension and racket pinion stering makes up for the rest

    On a diferent subject,

Today I was driving to work and I noticed a girl driver in an old iRock z28. She was riding my bumper and we were going up a very long hill... She ran out of patients and I was doing the speed limit... She honked her horn and tried to pass me up hill! Well, it was a very narow backroad and while she had the power to do it, she didnt have enough comon sence... I however didnt either! When she got on my side and was about to pass me I steped on the pedle and made it imposible for her to pass me! The fact that she was riding my bumper really pissed me off! Well, evry move she made I countered... The problem was right on the top of the hill was a big truck! She barly had time to change lanes! And When I saw the truck I floored it to give her the room to pull in behind me....

Well, this tought me a good lesson! A: if its a no passing zone dont pass (her fault) B: If someone is trying to pass you, JUST LET THEM! C: road rage is a very bad thing!

oh, and her name is Irean and she works at Midgard with me! We had alot of laughs later at lunch

having been to the states, i'd personally say that no, the traffic conjestion is *much* worse over here as citys in the states are designed for cars. i think the yanks have auto boxes more because they dont mind about the hit to fuel consumption, and the engines are big enough to cope with the lesser performance..

I dont know why you brits think american cars have lesser performance When was the last time you put a 4 cylender V tec against a V12 640HP at 240 miles per hour? Over there you generaly have to think smal for cars... However over here we think BIG!

And what V12 would that be? Even your supercars use V8's. Besides, that vtec prolly makes just as many if not more HP per litre.

The Viper has always had a V10. I don't know of any American large scale production V12 engine TBH, not in recent times at any rate.

    here's a closer analogie

mid sized family Euro saloon, 2 litre 4 cyl-165 bhp 0-60 8 secs

mid sized US sports coupe 2.5 V6-165 bhp guessing about 10 with auto

mind you at 20 years of age my pride and joy was a Ford escort XR3, hang on that would have minced your V6 as well

    SX48P2-D - Q9650@3.6 - 8gig DDR3 - 128SSD - 9800GT
    Corsair 600T - DP67BG - I7 2600k - MSI GTX560Ti - C300 SSD - 2Tb WD - 16 gig ddr3

Thats because there isn't one, theres V8's, V10's and one V16 to my knowledge in production cars in the u.s and none of them can corner to save their life. Apparently the new corvette is better but its still no elise. I don't dispute that these things can eat up huge mileages between services but a 5 litre V8 will push similar horsepower to the viper and be reliable even if it doesn't do 100,000 miles between services.

Bit of an exaggeration- the Viper has about 500hp which would be a hell of a lot for a 5l V8....the E39 M5 had 400BHP for example.

    What's the V16 BTW?

Nah a 5.4 will handle that much if its done right, I know someone that runs one as a daily driver. The V16 is the Cadillac Sixteen seen here - http://www.supercars.net/cars/2003@$...0Conceptg.html Rumors are that a toned down version will eventually see production.
