Actually its pretty damn good. The only time you'll see less than 30mpg is if you are driving as if your trousers are on fire, or if you (like me) spend most of your time in town.

On regular driving across A roads etc expect 35-38, and over 40 is easily attainable on the Motorway.

Not my experiance of any mondeo (even the 1.8)

40 is atainable on motorway, yes, but I can get 47/48ish sitting easy on the motorway and have more go to boot.

It's probably comparable/better than other cars of it's class/age, I supposed I'm just not used to them.

my 1.8 does aboout 410 to the tank ( mixed driving )

it does suprise me ( much to my upset fox ) with the handling

I'm almost tempted to go the way of an SXOC'er who isa ford employee who runs a TDCi at somewhat raised boost for a "fun mondy Diesel"

    (besides I have cool RS500 Alloys )

I've no experience of the 1.8 but I have run a 2.0 for 18 months now. You don't even need to try for good economy on the Motorway, it just does about 43/44 without issue at normal cruising speed.

Infact I'd go so far to say that it's actually a very economical car for its type, except around town where most things are pretty awful.

A friend of mine has an old diesel volkswagen sharan, he loves it. It will do 60mpg on the motorway and has a huge boot with the seats up. We were sailing with 4 of us and we could fit 4 kit bags (which are huge, maybe 1ft high and wide and 3ft long although easily compressible) and strangely 2 sets of golf clubs that had been left in there. That lot didn't even reach the height of the seatbacks/hatchback window.

They do a 2 litre turbo 960, or a 2.5 litre petreol 960... auto boxes only in those though i think.

Be a good load lugger for sure though!

they never did the 960 in a 2l turbo - that was the 940. i believe i'm right in saying the 960s only had 2.5l v6 or a 3l straight 6. both auto or manual, but both thirstly

Not sure, I'll ask my mate tomorrow, he has a 960 2.5... I thought he looked at a 960 2 litre diesel though - thats why I said it... maybe it was another model!

could have been a 940 tdi or a 740/760 tdi, i'm pretty sure they didnt do the 960 with that engine (cos it was w%nk)... if they did it would have been a 2.4 tdi (iirc)
