Michael Park, co-driver for Markko Martin, has died after an accident on stage 15 of Wales Rally GB.
Martin's Peugeot 307 crashed heavily into a tree on Park's side during the 17-mile Margam stage.
It's a sad day when any form of motorsport claims a life

To be fair to the Rally industry, i can't remember the last time it claimed a life, but i suppose now people will start campaigning to get it banned because it's too dangerous

I was just leaving cardiff when I heard it on the news.
It's horrible to hear, really has put my day on a bit of a downer.

and lest we not forget...what a proper leson this is.
Mr Parks terrible demise, his loss to the world of rallying, and Marko's personal grief for being at the wheel, and coming out unscathed are your first thoughts...and rightly.
But the fact is, good people, he was in one of the worlds strongest, safest and best designed forms of car: A Rally car. Cages and harnesses abound. Rigidity and strength.
And the driver is one of the worlds best.
None of us are that good...and none of our cars are that strong.
Just remember that next time you consider a risky overtake, or are not concentrating in the rain.
My respect to Mr David Parks and my thoughts to his family. I was gutted when I saw it. And Sair's face went ashen.

I don't think one has (or will) be released.
The only way I can see the accident happening is where the car slides sideways into a VERY big and unforgiving tree
Heard on the news on the way back home from the south east and was quite shocked
You don't really expect it with todays safety measures, heck four people died at the great north run this year! Yet driving at silly speeds on farm tracks is somehow safe. Just makes you think.
