I do, although I'm not overally proud of it... just seems to happen... I like to think atleast I speed in places where there is reasonably low risk. Eg, I wouldn't speed past a school when they're kicking out, or when kids are playing near the road etc etc.

Still, it's not clever - and shouldn't be done. On the flip side though, if idiots didn't do 30mph on 60mph roads when it's perfectly safe to do 60 - I wouldn't get so bloody annoyed and feel the urdge to overtake them and speed for the remainer of my journey.

We've had this debate before. It's not about where you do it and whether it's 'safe', it's about in the event of the unexpected happening, having less time to react / less chance of survivial.

Obviously I'm not referring to those who are doing a little over 30 in a 30 zone but those hurtling along at stupid speeds on NSL roads / Motorways

i dont do it stupid speeds i no my limits and i wouldnt push them eg the speeds i do i no for a fact i can react to

Course I have, and the unexpected happened to me. Hurtling down the M6 at 110, some large debris appeared in my lane (as I came round a corner) and I had to swerve to avoid it, causing my car to fishtail. It was a scary experience that made me think twice.

eeek sorry to hear that Oakey glad you pulled it off ok.

it scared me at 90 down the A46 (flat/down hill roads it gets your speed up) overtaking a white van it started coming into my lane i was wetting myself (it went really wide to go round a bike or just to make me swear )

now i cant do speeds like that near white vans they scare me to much

it's not safe to assume it's 'ok' to do a little over 30 in a 30... that's exactly the mistake we make... assuming we're all safe drivers, and it's fine 'cos we can drive... it should be a drill - don't exceed 30 in a 30... regardless... we all think we know better than the law makers/enforcers... it's socially acceptable to do 30+ in a 30, it shouldn't be... i drive at less than 30/40/50 and i get queues of traffic behind, and chavs/old men in big motors overtaking... stupid, really stupid...

...but... catch me doing less than 100 on a dry, open m/way and i'll buy you a pint...

On motorways I usually do around 80-85. It's a bit of a chore (read: nigh on impossible) for my car to go much faster

At night I find myself speeding slightly.... But not ridiculously and certainly not if I feel it's unsafe due to lighting conditions, areas people/cars might come from, etc. I usually stick to the limits during the day.

but its the unexpected things in the motorway that can be the issue.
I'll poke Jiff in the direction of this thread and try and get the story of his incedent on the M1- its quite an eye opener.

I generally keep my speed down in the mundano - but thats to save fuel, and the fact that it doesn't get me to work any quicker ( I've tested this , and all you do is arrive at teh bottlenecks on my work route a little faster )

getting an SP30 for 68 in a 60 didn't help either

I think the temptation to go just that little bit quicker in the 200 willl be there , but I think I'll try and save any extreme speeds for a track / testing ground.

Isn't that a little contradictory? You chastise anyone who does 'a little over 30' but openly admit to doing a minimum of 30mph over the speed limit on a 'dry, open motorway'. And what happens if the unexpected happens and you endanger your life and those of others? If you hit someone at 30 there's a chance they'll live, if you crash at 70 there's a chance you'll live... there are limits for a reason.

i agree, and don't advocate raising the speed limit on m/ways (lets face it, anyone bee pulled for doing less than 90 recently?), but... when was the last time something 'unexpected' happened to you on the motorway - they're inherently safer (for drivers and pedestrians) than any other road... but if i think it's safe to do 35 in a 30, i'm reinforcing the 'it's ok, if you're a good, safe driver' message... and the other one; 'i drive at 30 past schools' etc... it ain't good enough imho...

Everyone speeds, whether its intentional or not. Have to admit I spend more time watching the road than the speedo. There are some places a 30 zone is ridiculous, some places it should be 40 or 50, others 10 or 20.

But its still breaking the law.
