I prefer Top Gear to 5th Gear, but both have their plus points (and I like VBH).

    ahhhhhhhhhhhhh must kill VBH

shes ugly, cant drive (i think the porshe cuited my naff driving style better) and really realy makes me wanna strangle her. i mean, shes must be pushing towards 40 now and shes STILL acting like some max power wanna be

as for tom ford, i quite like him, in small doses. but definatl not at a ferrari action.

plato, god how naff and annoying

tiff i missed (a good thing by the sounds of it!!)

i cant wait for top gear, at least it has 3 half decent presenters, yes clarkson is a t@t, but he knows that and plays up to it, and is at least mildly amusing while he does so.

oh, and the worst part of 5th ear last nite was tiffs attempted snub about them using a proper race track an not an airfield like some shows. for gods sake, grow up and learn to type!

That's actually a running joke between both shows, Tiff and Clarkson are always making little comments like that.

Two different shows, two different purposes. For me Top Gear has always been a light entertainment show with very nice cars. You like Top Gear if you like Clarkson and his rants on the world. Fifth gear has always done much more focused car tests and focused on a bit more realistic view of cars and is much more a car buyers show.

I have to admit that i do find Vicky rather annoying and overall i much prefer Top Gear simply because if you watch it as entertainment and have a open mind on their sense of humour its actually pretty good.

Fifth gear is just on the wrong channel tbh

    I prefer Top Gear myself.

I enjoy the supercar content more because its entertaining, despite the forseeable result, watching Clarkson race Hammond and May accross Europe in an Aston or a Ferrari.

I think it comes down to you preference of presnters. I think VBH is a smarmy little so and so and i just dont care what she thinks (not because shes a woman either, the female presenter on pulling power is ace) Tiff is great. I like Clarkson and his sidekicks because they really do give me a laugh which is important. The episode with Paul the hypnotist Mckenna for instance

I've got to say I prefer Top Gear over 5th Gear. It's the banter and jokes between the guys on top gear that win it really. The episode where they hipnotised him so he thought he couldn't drive was hilarious, as was the part where Clarkson crashed into the peddle sportscar with the peddle 4x4 and he was nearly crying over damage to his car.

I think top gear magazine get the job of being sensible and advising buyers.

TBH, if I was buying a newish car I'd testdrive it, compare the specs and prices of other cars in the class, talk to owners, talk to garages. The last consideration would be what a TV programme made of it.

Top gear tend to review car's I'll never own and play with cars I just might. I loved the article on £100 cars (me being a firm beliver in the sub £1000 world of motoring).

I guess it means I'm not a 'car buyer'

Btw, that Ferrari auction was covered by Tom Ford (yep, him of 5h gear) in Top Gear magazine. I think both programs might be tighter knit than it appears, even if you take the jokes into account.

I prefer Top Gear, but i watch both. I do find 5th gear presenters slightly annoying at times but its got cars in it, so thats me sat there watching

..well ok, but at least realise that the majority of people who watch motoring TV don't agree with you. The odd thing, really, is that fifth gear basically follows the old top gear format (with the old presenters) which was pretty successful (certainly more so than any other motoring programme of recent recollection) - but for some reason it's just not working anymore. Personally i attribute this to poor content but also the fact that Top Gear as it is now is a far more 'fun' format - and by that i mean it's something the missus would actually enjoy, rather than just me. Personally i just record fifth gear now on the offchance that there's maybe 2 mins of something in ~20mins of it, that way i can skip the dull stuff (which seems to be the majority of it). I've much respect for tiff - he's a very nice chap and (IMHO) pretty handy behind the wheel. Jason is a proven driver too but no great shakes as a presenter (but he's no bad either). VBH.. just wished she didn't 'squeak' so much

Well, that's my hat thrown into the ring..

When did I give the impression that I didn't realise this? I thought the phrase 'one man's meat is another man's poison' was a fairly strong clue myself.

Personally I don't see the fun in three sad old gits making unfunny jokes and having a go at anyone who isn't like them. Honestly, they're all knobs. When the new Merc SLK came out they reckoned it was good- but put it on the 'seriously uncool' section of the cool wall because Coleen McLoughlin drives one. Hahahaha- laughing at chavs is so hi-larious isn't it?

Then when they tested it against the Porsche Boxster two out of three of them reckoned they'd take the Merc. Utter bunch of divs TBH.

    - and by that i mean it's something the missus would actually enjoy,
<shrugs> My missus agrees with me that they're a bunch of unfunny sad old gits.
