It starts again tonight. Hour long episodes, too

Oh jeez, that was squirm inducing.

Vicky Butler "I can't drive for toffee" Tartybird has had her hair bleached, overdone the suntan and is now definitely heading towards "mature lady". Oh yes, and she is now the equivalent of The Stig and they have miraculously acquired a lap time leaderboard for their "It's only half the length but it's much better than a runway" track.

Tiff "Tiffany Dell" Needell was slightly less sideways than usual, but his item on the Aston Martin V8 Vantage left me feeling "oh is that it?". Synopsis: you can't hear the nice engine sound, it's ok on the road, it's quite good on the track, we don't like it cos it's not a Porsche.

Jason "I'm a racing driver, oh and did you know I'm a racing driver?" Plato trundled around the sky in a training Harrier and "proved" that driving a car around a track is harder than flying a fighting aircraft. P.S Did you know he is a racing driver?

Fat "I can't remember his name" Bloke bought Michael Schooomacher's 2001 racing seat at auction and endeared the audience by wearing a "guns don't kill people" t-shirt. It may have said "American nutters with guns kill people" underneath but we never got that far. Still, he showed how stylish we Brits are, standing out in that room of sharp suited Italians and rich businessmen...

Oh yes, and you can apply to visit the "we aren't in an aircraft hangar cos we don't have the budget" studios and sit in Schooomeh's seat. Woo.

Audio quality varied from ok to "I must get my ears syringed" and they were obviously really trying not to use dramatic camera angles and graduated filters. Somewhere in there is a half decent 30 minute programme trying to get out.

The irony of having the BT advert featuring Jezza "yeah I'm a fat ****** but still better than any of this mob" Clarkson in the commercial break hadn't passed me by either.

One man's meat is another man's poison I guess. As far as I'm concerned that was far better than any episode of the latest Top Gear format that I've ever seen.

I take it you know for a fact you can drive better than VBH?

Yeah - can you rave? Ever driven a RWD car?

I'm sorry but Zed's first line "Oh jeez, that was squirm inducing. " kinda sums up every episode of 5th gear i've seen. And i havent seen this one that we're talking about

    Failed touring car driver
    Failed old touring car driver
Girl who has breasts (nevermind cars)
    Token Fat guy

Drag it out for an hour? How painful

About the only entertainment on 5th gear is watching Tiff's rather animated driving style. I'm pretty sure the people that prep cars for the press reinforce things before he gets them

    VBH....must...kill...VBH

And Jason plato, I assume that's the low drone that puts me in a coma?

I mean, at least top gear are silly on pourpose. 5th gear are crap and pretend it's proper auto journalism.

Range rover vs Fiat panda offroad: Drive one range rover really slowly up a quarry with no hassle. Drive one 4x4 panda up the side at silly speeds all over the place. Conclusion; the 4x4 panda is as good offroad as a rangerover.

Topgear... thrown them off a cliff and see which one bounces. Make fun of Richard hammonds hair.

Yes, I've driven an MR2 for the last four years. No, I don't reckon I'm as good a driver as VBH. What actually is your point?

Edit: Konan, that's all well and good, except that Top Gear has never made me laugh. Not even once. So all that pissing about is a total waste of time IMO. Whether you like or dislike the presenters of Fifth Gear (I don't mind them, but it seems like I'm in the minority), Plato and Needell can undeniably drive, and VBH debatably can, so their supercar porn is automatically better than anything TG can ever do.

Why also is all there all this dislike of VBH? As far as I can ever tell, the problem most people seem to have with her is that she's a) posh and b) a woman. In this thread she's been referred to as a 'tartybird' by one bloke and slagged off by everyone else. Anyone care to actually justify their dislike of her?

She gets to drive around in really nice cars, and gets paid many dollar for it.

And i have to pay to drive round in anything faster than a fiesta, and it costs me many dolar for it

Well, yes, jealousy is a reason I suppose but she's no more or less lucky than any other motoring journalist.

I dislike the fact I have to put up with her on the TV. I can't stand her mannerisms in general and they're even worse when being channeled into her shoddy 'presenting style'

She just hits that 'why are you talking with authority you dense lady!!??' reaction from me. Sort of like Neil Fox.

Even if you don't agree with a word Clarkson says, he's proved himself a capable Journalist and writer over the years. At least he says what he thinks in an interesting manor.

I don't know if VBH decides what she's going to say or if it's totally scripted, but I have no interest in listening to her squeak out "It's got plenty of va-va-voom and is a nice sporty red colour" woopey doo.

<shrugs> I've never seen an example of her being a dumb lady. Clarkson OTOH has proven repeatedly that he is a grade-A idiot.

I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
