Please tell me you didn't spend 4 grand on a 7 year old 110bhp diesel. Please.

Looks like a reasonable price to me. Audis are prestigious anyway and that = more moneys.

And the spinny turbine forced air intake type thingy makes it less boring

The spinning turbine forced air intake type thingy is an utter essential on a diesel, they are barely capable of independant movement without one

It's on a petrol, or a high powered diesel, where it makes things less boring

Yes. I am a huge diesel fan. I owned a Xantia TD.

    I test drove a Mondeo 1.8TD.

    I bought a Mondeo 2.0 16v

Fantastic car, horrible engine. Ok if you want to get from A to B, but it's noisy, unrefined, not very powerful, and slow.

Fox is a bit like The Stig..He's known as The Mondeo Man. He's driven every Mondeo in existance. Even yours. If it's a Mondeo and it's Ford, by golly he's driven it.

They're OK if you run a taxi service, but anything out of town and the MPG returns just arn't worth suffering that lumpy old TD.

Unless we're talking new-generation Ford then it's utter rubbish. In fact, the old TD mondeo has a repuation for being one of the worst cars known to mankind (with reliability to match). Until the new gen mondeo and focus Ford really didn't have any diesel worth mentioning, let alone worth buying, when compared to the VAG cars available.
