The lowering and alloys will just put up your insurance un-necessarily. I wouldn't have thought it'd be a whole lot faster than the Fiesta either!

Blimey how do i spell it im not worried about "faster". If i was i'd go for something older and faster, but im not!
As for lowering/alloys, well ive had a quote for insurance on it (3PF&T) for £407.99 Bare in mind im 21 this year and it can only go down.

Have you looked at it? Is it a huge deal "better" than the Fiesta in other departments, i.e luxury?
That quote is with the mods declared? If so then fair enough. If you've looked at the car and are happy with it, the way it drives, etc, then go for it

thats a huge amount of money for a car like that. i got a 1999 (v) mondeo for under half that much. thats a car which probably isnt much quicker (i got the diesel), but is more economical, nicer inside, will last longer, cheaper to fix and more spacious..
choice is, of course, yours.

If you don't want the car to go any faster, then why have it lowered. Bumps insurance up (I pay £400 a year on a group 12 car fully comp), reduces component life and ride comfort.
Not that I'd imagine it's worlds apart from a fiesta anyway, just a bit bigger.
Also a car thats been lowered and had aftermarket alloys, especially a 1.4, is likely to have had its tits ragged off by some boy racer. You want to look for something that some little old granny has been driving to the shops once a week.

Well the full service history, service, mot and cambelt are all good. Mileage is also fine for the years. I'd be careful with the fact that its lowered, take it for a test drive and see if you can take it around different surfaces to get a feel for it.Originally Posted by Bunjiweb

I'd say go for it. The golf is rock solid car, well built and good to drive. The 1.4 is a little gutless but it'd still move alright, and a good buy at that money.

its £500 over book, with a slightly lower than average milage, but not by a long way.. in my eyes its a poor buy.. a focus would make more sence, if you want a hatch of that size.. drives much better..

A Fraud focus... Not really, Horrid engines, not as good looking as the golf and not as well built.

That is a big question of personal taste. I think that Focus looks awesome, while golf is quite dull. Yes, Focii are too common now, but thats because they are good.Originally Posted by hitman67

At that price it'll be a Mk3Originally Posted by dkmech

If it's a MK3 Golf vs a Focus the build quality difference is nowt but pub talk either.
I had a idea that alloys put up your insurance quote but is it by a huge amount ?
Also can you fit 18" alloys on a MkIV without trouble or would 17" be safer.

Poor engines? You are taking the mick surely, the only poor engines in the Focus are the 1.4 which is not as awful as the 1.4 in the Golf, and the 1.8TD which really is terrible.Originally Posted by hitman67
1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 are all very good engines indeed. Better built than a Mk3 Golf, more modern looking (Mk3 Golf is ancient) but this is all irrelevant becuase the chances of getting a Focus for under £2k are slim to none.
