    Changing spacing on number plate

I've seen a lot of number plates where the spacing has been changed to make it more personalised but I alawys thought this was illegal?

I brought I number plate recently I would ideally like to change the spacing on it, but I want to do this legally, how would I go about this?

Also, can i but them black dots anywhere I want to?

    Thanks

You can't change the spacing legally, and putting the bolts in the wrong places will also get you spanked. Its the risk you run being a numberplate nerd though...

O ok, is that not a way where you register your plate in another country or something?
What I was think of doing was just putting the black dot things on the plate, using them as a full stop after on of the letters, would that be ok, as its not interfering with any of the actual characters?

    ...and I don't like non-standard font anyway.

You can do it, but you'll fail your MOT when it comes around to it if the characters are not correctly spaced or are not the right size etc.

It is illegal and the police can issue on the spot £30 fines.

Slight Tangent, but actually saw one of the VOSA patrol vehicles today... looks exactly like a Police Land Rover until you get along side and it says "Traffic Officer" instead of POLICE on the side. Their sole purpose is to stop and fine people for anything that would fail an MOT, plates, neons, tints etc...

i bought a new car and front and back number plate were different (digits in slightly different order). front was correct. It took me 1 year to notice and 2 1/2 years to replace. Having a wrong back number plate is great for those speed cameras.

My plan had i ever been caught was to plead total ignorance - which luckily i wasnt. replaced back number playe just b4 i sold car.

Being illegal is OK! getting caught isnt!
