    The T5 would probably be a bit less than 220bhp..

    Considering the S40 T5 is pretty much a crocus ST underneath (same chassis, engine... even the twin exhausts are the same)
    I cant see them releasing the C30 with the same power, as it would steal sales from their higher-models.. maybe a 2.0t with 170-180bhp more likely (t4??)

    Volvo already do a 2.4i 5 cylinder engine which IIRC puts out ~170bhp it would be alot easier to just wack one of these in the C30 if they wanted that kind of power from it.
    I still wouldnt agree that the C30 would 'steal' sales from other ranges as as it is a new model aimed to cater for a different market. i.e. hot hatch rather than entry level saloons.

    Nope, its going to be released with a 220bhp T5 engine in it - confirmed by the volvo press people @ the motorshow. They also hinted at a second more powerful engine, but not likely to be available on launch

    the c30 probably won't be much cheaper than the s40\v50. a grand or so at most, i'd imagine. the 1-series is only 3k cheaper than the equivilent 3, and still sells pretty well..

    in fact, when volvo used to do the 440,460 and 480, the 480 (coupe of the range) had a premium of about £1,000 over the others..

    the t4 engine was in the old s\v40s, basically a t5 with a cylinder lopped off - 200bhp, good for 6.4 seconds to 60, in the most blended in car you can imagine. a true q-car..
