Re: When do you buy a new PSU? Poll 2

With modular PSU's new connectors should be available in the future. Just need some forethought during design stages. Saying that it will be interesting to see if Enermax deliver with their future purpose 12 pin sockets.

Since using a wall socket meter I'll won't look at the high wattage PSU's, as the optimal efficiency graphs normally show maximum efficiency at half capacity. And I was surprised that my current system uses less power than a far lower specification AM2 system I had.

So for me, I plan to upgrade if my PSU died and is outside warranty. Or if there was an ambient advantage such as quieter, cooler operation, higher efficiency. And given enough time the requirement for new connectors if first paragraph never materialises.

I continually monitor technology and the PSU is a very important part of a PC the improvements over the last 5 years is astounding just because people can't see what a PSU does they don't want to spend the money, when they see my PC's running without a glitch for years I put it down mainly to a good build starting with the PSU.
