For the fan on a normal cpu cooler I prefer to stick with a PWM fan and let the motherboard adjust the speed for lowest noise.
The corsair H50 comes with a PWM fan so I'd go that route personally.
One thing to note about the h50, from most of the reports I've seen, when you mount the pump/waterblock, put it on upside down, ie with the corsair logo upside down and the pipes coming out of the top.
Seems to work better that way around, 4-6 degrees cooler.
Nice, will do. It looked black and it's just excrement coloured . And also, I take it the pipes should come out of the top of the radiator too? You recommend the supplied fan over the gentle typhoon?
    Cheers for infos :x

Thanks again cptwhite, this would be a nasty dual core build if it wasn't for your board price

    Re: Modding an Antec 300

Well the gentle typhoon are supposed to have good static pressure (ie work well with a rad) so that should make a good replacement.
I would assume Corsair have used a decent fan . . . I'd start off with that fan and test it, and if you don't like it swap over to the gentle typhoon and test that.

As to which way round for the rad, probably pipes at the bottom because it may not fit the other way around.

It's the cut-down 1150 rpm version not the 1450 rpm one they reviewed in CustomPC. I'll mount it with tubes coming out of th bottom then and they twist them kinda to get them to come out of the top of the block? Any other tops for mounting the h50? I gather I should just tighten the bracket a little, slip in the block and secure it, followed by tightening all the screws till it's firm but not too tight.

    Re: Modding an Antec 300

No idea I'm afraid, I was just doing a load of reading up on it ages back as I was considering getting one myself when I found out that there's a lot of reports of better performance with the block unside down.

There's some other things you need to look at with the case fans, it may perform better if you set the rad at the back with the fan set as extraction and then flip the top fan over so it draws air in.
This will change the fan layout to be a positive pressure layout, but with h5o set as extraction it should benefit.

Issue here will be graphics card, depending on the card and cooler, garphics card can suffor in positive pressure designs.

You'll have to try a few different layout to find out what's best and how much it effects heat, both overall and individual components.

    Re: Modding an Antec 300

Well I only have an 8400Gs, so I don't even care if it breaks. I'm not gonna have any rear intake fans because of dust. The 140mm will be exhaust and I was planning on using the h50 as an exhaust too. I'm not going for any overclocking records here, 4ghz would be nice, but 3.8 with stock volts is nice too (no idea if that's achievable ). I have a pretty bad 120mm fan which I could do push pull with but it would take up so much room then. I checked and it would fit with the tubes coming out of the top of the radiator but I think I read that that's a bad plan so I won't bother . Plan is thus: have the H50 with the scythe fan as an exhaust and the tubes coming out of the top of ther waterblock

    Re: Modding an Antec 300

Well it seems to be doing its job well enough... around 1.38 vcore and It never goes above 60 under full load. I have it at 3.8ghz atm. Think I should head for 1.4vcore 4ghz? I sure want to

    Re: Modding an Antec 300

Running p95... the 4th core failed the test. It didn't over heat - only ever reached 58C, just reached a fatal error with rounding to 0.5 instead of 0.4. What does this mean?
    Keep getting single core failures

    Re: Modding an Antec 300

Well this link seems to suggest 1.4 as the max voltage for the CPU without damaging the chip so go for it but dont push any further. Core failure during overclock is not necessarily always down to overheating, its totally pheasable for them to fail because the core isn't capable of running at the speeds you have set it at at the voltage you have set it at. This doesnt mean you have a fault, just that your chip is reaching its limit or your overclock settings arent quite right.

    Re: Modding an Antec 300

I saw some people on the internet with 1.45v vcore so I went to 1.44 and I got it stable at 4ghz. After 2.5 hours of prime 95 temps never went above 65
