I have an akasa amber 120mm in my case, makes a little buzzing noise

3 Arctic cooling 120mm fans (£5 off ebay) run really quiet and push a decent amount of air

1 special arctic 120mm (suitable only for the back of the case) that is quiet too

only noisy fan seems to be my crossflow and my rear exhaust 120mm one (the exhaust one comes out today)

I have a silenX 80mm in the front of my HDD caddy and it's definitely audible above about 7v. Sharkoons and Akasa Amber look like the daddies from what i've seen

I used to swear by the Akasa Ambers but I recently aqquired a couple of Papst 4412's and they are seriously good fans for the money, I run them on 7V and they are silent and shift a lot of air and even when running on the full 12V they aren't as loud as the Akasa's which do emit a whining noise.

Akasa Ambers seem to be overrated, from both mine and others I have a little buzzing/vibrating so while the airflow is pretty quiet the fan itself isn't.

You can't get better than a good ol' Nexus 120mm, or Yate Loon, its all the same stuff, although Nexus hand pick there fans from the best to get the quietest fans, but you can't really tell the difference unless you live in a recording studio

The new Silenx fans are excellent though I do agree, their airflow has been over-rated. That said, excellent piece of engineering (hold that and another comparable fan in front of a desktop fan and you'll see the Silenx move at the slightest amount of air) and no noise worth the name. I tried the Sharkoons and while respectable they have a pitch just high enough to be noticed above Raptor150's which is to say for the first week you own them all you'll be doing is trying to listen for them.

I also second the Yate Loon fans; for the money you can't buy much better though a little noisy for me

Anyone know which reputable UK online retailers sell the Noiseblocker fans?

    Cheers,

Re: The best of the silent 120mm fans

Just thought I would add my 2p worth, my Akasa Amber fans dont make any whining and I have 4 of them 2x 120s front and rear and 2x 92s one on my Thermalright HR03 cooling my X1950xt and one on my Thermalright Ultra 90 cooling my CPU. Of course I could just be lucky. All I know now is that my hard drives and DVD are the loadest components by far!
